Allan Hyrons, 70, and his wife, Wilma, were rescued by the troops of the 2nd Special Forces Battalion under the 11th Infantry “Alakdan” Division of the Philippine Army at Mt. Piahan, boundary of Barangays Silangkan and Taha in Parang, Sulu at around 9 a.m.

They were taken at gunpoint by unidentified attackers at their resort in Tukuran, Zamboanga del Sur on October 4, before being brought to various hideouts to mislead the pursuing troops.

Lieutenant General Cirilito Sobejana, commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Western Mindanao Command (AFP-WestMinCom), said the troops have been conducting pursuit operations for three days straight already when they finally caught up with the terrorists.

“Sunod-sunod na tatlong araw na engkwentro natin (We engaged the group for three days straight) since they were on the run. We took advantage of it and we really pursued them,” Sobejana said.

Somehow this is Obama's fault?

I think the US should let the Philippines settle this one on their own. Where's that Filipino "Pride" at when you need it? :sneaky: The US has enough of their own problems and we should be focusing more on our own citizens. I think the only way the US should come help is if the Philippines, at the very least, pays for the US Navy's fuel, offers to wave every US citizen visa fees and gives us a right to own land and 100% of a business in the Philippines. I'm tired of my country being expected to come to the rescue with nothing being given in return.

Just pointing out so there's no confusion, the original post/link was about Roman Catholic CHURCH annulment, while most of the discussion has been about CIVIL annulment. Even in the Philippines, they are two separate processes. Securing the former won't invalidate the marriage in the eyes of the law or free the person to remarry. However, there is an opinion from the Philippines Supreme Court that says, "Interpretations given by the National Appellate Matrimonial Tribunal of the Catholic Church in the Philippines, while not controlling or decisive, should be given great respect by our courts." So getting a church annulment should in theory help getting a civil annulment, but doesn't guarantee it.

I was eating at Casablanca one night and saw this foreigner walking with a girl that was very obviously around 12 or 13. He tried to come sit down at the restaurant. Asked him, "Are you f***ing serious?" and just stared at him, then the girl, then back at him. He quickly claimed it was his daughter but it was quite obvious that she wasn't given all the disgusting flirty smiles they were exchanging, and his immediate departure when I started looking around for the police said everything I needed to know. The extremely nasty look of the tween really took me by surprise though....I must have been busting up the family business. I paid my bill and left in a hurry in case any cousins were around to take care of any naysayers. Another one was ran off from Why Not a couple months later. These assholes should be taken around back and shot.

It isn't really a comparison of visas or they would be questioning every country that doesn't allow Filipinos to just fly in all willy nilly visa free. They are butt hurt and their pride damaged. They are just lashing out like little children. This is just talk and grandstanding, they don't actually want to go head to head with the USG in an immigration standoff. Where would their politicians send their money and run too when they have finished sucking the lower class dry with their corruption?

So what about this? Well that sounds like me as a child whining to my mother; " But all the other kids are doing it". It never was a valid excuse for bad behaviour, at least not where I grew up.

Lumping all foreigners together because of a few is not valid reasoning but the logic doesn't matter. What does matter is what the locals thing of us as a group.

My experience with Filipinos in my home country is that they seldom get into any trouble and there are about 700,000 living thee. I think the statement is generally true.

Regardless of what Pinoys do abroad is not an excuse for what some foreigners do in their host country.

Mr. President, please send a squad to Bacong to catch the turd who robbed my house. Please torture him first to tell where my stuff is before you kill him. Salamat.

Ok, then allow foreigners to buy land in the Philippines in the same way that Filipinos are free to buy land in most foreign countries - that is reciprocity!

I don't think that one year is quite enough. They should be thrown in prison for at least 15 months....and only be fed a few slices of bread and some instant noodles twice a day.
