This is from Western Pacific Weather (Westernpacificweather.com | Tropical Storm Bavi Nears Guam, Then the PAR?
There is more confidence that the Philippines will see some sort of impact from Bavi by mid next week. With that said the intensity of the storm is still uncertain. Let me explain.
The storm will be buffeted with wind shear and will move in to relatively cooler waters after it passes Guam, this would mean a general weakening trend.
In storms past though systems have seen a burst of intensity in the Philippine sea which models often do not pick up on. This makes me cautious on ruling out that this storm will be weak when it does near the country.
The thing to keep in mind is that there are a lot of factors in long range tracks. Thus having it impact the country does not mean it will be a typhoon. Seems likely at this time a Tropical storm WILL IMPACT somewhere in Luzon or Visayas. That is about as specific I can be given the information available. Over the weekend this will become more clear.
If you are in the Philippines still watch this one closely. There is still some threat and if it does stay farther south and does not weaken from shear it actually could be a typhoon. But I have said before likely not until Sunday or Monday will we have a clear idea if the storm will impact the Philippines yet alone exactly where it will impact.

So millions of sim cards to be registered within 6 months of Dec 27th.
This is the Philippines - so what could go wrong?
Some people finding after registration that their sim cards get cut off is one guess.-

Plainspoken,
Please keep in mind the following:
1. Individuals or companies providing "visa services" can maybe make your paperwork a little easier (in the sense that they'll assist you with acquiring forms and filling in those forms), but that's it. Nobody but the applicant can file the visa request and nobody but the embassy decides whether you get a visum or not. Anyone claiming they have a backdoor entry at the embassy and can "get things done for you" is lying.
2. Residency is not the same as "visiting a country for a limited period on a tourist visum". If indeed formal residency is a requirement to get a divorce somewhere, then you better find out about the requirements to get "resident status".-

I assume, you are both right, @Rye83 and @dr ski.
Defensive living for sure is advisable here, but if you think about it every minute chances are you get paranoid.
Live is worth nothing here. We should not forget that. Living in a third world country doesn't mean laying on the beach and drinking chilled beer all the time.
You have to find your own way to enjoy your life here. Be cautious, be carefully, live under the radar and be aware where you are living. But don't forget to celebrate and enjoy. Otherwise you really get crazy.-

3 nights ago two of my sisters in law were waiting at the intersection of Palinpinon Road and Legarda Street when some guy drove up on a motorbike and shot a food vendor 3 times. This happened about 20 meters away from where the girls were. I've been watching the news but there has been no mention of the incident or what happened or whether the food vendor survived. Makes me wonder how often this happens that we are unaware of.

The situation seems to get more curious by the week. In a conversation with one of the staff in Mia's restobar last night, she said that she was worried about her house in San Miguel barrio, in Agan-an, being taken by the government. When I asked why, she said for the development of a new runway to the existing airport. Unsure if any of you know but over 49 houses were dismantled, a couple of weeks ago in Maslog, near the beach front in Sibulan. Official reasons were that the owners, the Bouffard (Ramon) brothers from Bais, wished to reclaim their land, adjacent to their extremely long fishponds. They roughly lie NE to SW, which would be a more sensible direction than the existing runway pattern(W to E), if the Bacong project fails to come to fruition. Anyone else hear of this?

One thing a person who handles firearms always learns, never fire a 'warning' shot, that bullet will land somewhere, and it could possibly be into an innocent person. Another thing, never brandish a weapon unless you are prepared to use it.-

- Thread: Murder of foreigner in valencia.
Normal for all murders in the Philippines, local and expat. I know you didn't suggest this but it isn't some conspiracy against foreigners, it is just how things work in the 3rd world where the police don't have the resources to complete a proper investigation and where justice is still largely dished out through extrajudicial means and then pushed under the rug.
The average expat generally isn't going have any sort of justice carried out for them since they don't have that clan support that the locals do. (Even if you are married you are not going to be a full member of the clan. If any revenge is taken out on your behalf it is likely only for the loss of monetary resources the clan suffered from your demise.) This is the reality of living in a 3rd world clan based society. If you can't accept that you should probably look elsewhere.-

They are earning there way to US citizenship. I think most are doing that to get out of the Philippines. And I don't think they would up and quit if the US turned their back on the Philippines. I highly doubt that since they themselves have turned their back on their own country. If they joined the US military to serve the Philippines then they joined the wrong military.
I have a whole lot of respect for Filipinos that serve in the military to earn their citizenship to the US. But they are the ones that are earning there way....we owe their country nothing because of it.
Edit: I changed the sentence structure to make this post not come off as sounding like an attack. Not how I meant for that to come out.-
