There are different ways of looking at it. Found a blog post that hits on this topic and I mostly agree with:
When you always refer to yourself as a guest you aren't getting the full respect that you deserve. You can criticize the local culture so long as you do it respectfully, take their cultural norms into consideration when making that criticism, and make that criticism in the right "forum". But, that doesn't really have much to do with what and how things are discussed here on DI though.
DI was created by "foreigners" mainly to help "foreigners" adapt to living in Dumaguete and the Philippines and to voice their thoughts and opinions on the local culture. While we more than welcome locals to join and add their opinions/advice/questions/etc, they must remember the objective of this forum, who it was created by and who it is meant to cater to. In a way it is them that are guests on this website - and basically anywhere online - and the prominent culture here is internet culture, not Filipino culture. If they cannot handle criticism and have thin skin/sensitive egos then this website - and the vast majority of websites online - is probably not the place for them to be. This forum, just like 99.9% of the internet, does not reside in their country and does not have to abide by their cultural norms or country's laws. We discuss their cultural norms here, sure, but their culture simply does not apply.

Seems like a grooming project of these 3 idiots. Luckily they only had the girls for 5 days before getting busted.
"With"? As in they were drinking together? Yeah, they were. These three sound like real scum. Hopefully they were caught before they were able to take advantage of the children (sounds like they caught them just before they were getting ready to). I would normally say to give them the death sentence...but a Filipino jail is much more fitting punishment.
@ChMacQueen See, it isn't just foreigners getting charged with these crimes. I do think the parents should also be charged with a crime as well. It seems their greed allowed them to pimp out their daughters. Parents have a legal and moral obligation to protect their children from scum like this...and they failed miserably at doing so.-

Not meeting this punk at all was the only reasonable thing Obama could do. Lecturing him won't work, it's a hopeless case in this age anyway.
This megalomaniac is working really hard to move international perception of the Philippines somewhere in between Venezuala and El Salvador. But yeah, of course he doesn't care, and why should he, after all economy is booming and doesn't need outside investment at all. Poverty doesn't exist, infrastructure is great, and the next super typhoon won't cause a major humanitarian catastrophe because the Phils are so well prepared. LOL this country really deserved better.-

I would very much be interested to hear Trump's take on Duterte's comments to the ambassdor. I'm betting I would agree with whatever it was he had to say about it.
The US does not need the Philippines. The advancement of long range bombers and nuclear powered ships have made the Philippines completely irrelevant. The shipping lanes can be protected from the bases we currently have in the Pacific and the bases China has built on the Spratley Islands have fixed addresses and pose absolutely no threat to the US (those can easily be dealt with from 1800 miles or more away from the islands). It is the Philippines that needs the US. Duterte can be as "macho" as he likes but that won't do anything to deter the Chinese from claiming every island in the archipelago that they please. Duterte speaks loudly and carries a tiny twig (the twig being the Philippine Navy and Coast Guard). Maybe he is stupid enough to think that sinking a Chinese battleship is as easy as sending his death squads out to kill impoverished 3rd world drug dealers though.
If Duterte wins the election I really think the US should reconsider their defense treaty (along with all foreign aid) with the Philippines.-

Yeah, there is no incentive to follow laws without enforcement. It's not an education issue. People will do whatever they can get away with.

Not just here, I could name some places in the US that seem worse now. I feel safer here than I would in any major Cities in the US.-

It is tough to describe the madness I witnessed, but it was in July as I had a flight on the 15th to the UAE. Sorry, I just figured many read my rather long set of posts on the subject.
As we arrived, there was a crowd of people, large enough to make walking in through the ambulance access driveway difficult without shouldering people. As it turns out, "most" of these people were waiting for evaluation by a 30 strong force of nurses/doctors that were situated in booths separated by 5 foot partition walls. These were people that feared they had COVID and were there to see if it was true. They were questioned and if their description of events/symptoms held up to scrutiny, they were actually tested. I saw many leave without being tested. So when I said "evaluated", I meant just that.
In what way was I lucky? I ended up spending a couple thousand dollars to stay in a hotel, get tested, and change flight dates due to last minute changes. Was I lucky that I didn't catch a disease that would have robbed me of my sense of smell for 2 weeks in exchange for all of that wasted time and money? I suppose some view it so.-
