That reaction would vary depending on our experiences - it is not fixed at birth. Our genes will mostly have expressed themselves by older age but, in some circumstances they may not - I think that certain genes may express themselves only according to the experiences we confront (and perhaps how we deal with them) and this can be at any point in a lifetime. So our reaction would not be the same if we had previous experiences XYZ instead of WXY, for example, or even ZYX (the same experiences as XYZ but in a different order). Perhaps at the moment we are experiencing something that is in itself feeding back into a network (including, crucially, the subconscious as @danbandanna stated) that changes the reaction, or outcome. Free Will depends on experiences and so cannot be free unless we can choose every experience - and even then it depends on making the right decisions and experiencing them in the right order (and no one does that). But I don't agree that early life experiences fix everything for us - some people climb from poverty to wealth and some descend from wealth to poverty. Often there are so many factors involved in those processes that it is like unravelling a millions pieces of string to find the real reasons - a wealthy person could lose everything by gambling and so raise the question 'why did he gamble?' and a poor person could launch a business that makes a billion. Which life experiences led to it? Which ones carried more weight? And many other questions.

Well that's a good start to a almost the New Year, ( not that it should make any differences but Rye is also the owner of the forum! )
Guys n Gals the world is in chaos and nobody has the answers what the new year will bring, families are falling into two groups

The forgives forgive and move on and forgets forget none of us are perfect, live and let live, ignore what you dont like, or people
you feel a grievence with, there's a whole lot more out there that is worthy of your concerns.
PS, I left the forum a number of years ago, now I read it, contribute were I feel I keep a positive vibe.
I wish all members Old, New, Past or Present, a very sincere Happy and Healthy New Year in 2021-

- Thread: Obesity
I went from 105kg @ 25% body fat (from when decided to lose weight and I got on a scale for the first time in probably a decade, my heaviest was likely around 110-115kg) to around 70kg @ ~7% body fat in less than a year while in Afghanistan. (Although, I will admit I was competition lean without much muscle mass. The average person from any country may be taken back when they can see every muscle fiber on a person.)
When I came back here the comments I got were downright offensive and disrespectful. They thought I was dying from some deadly disease or had been horribly addicted to meth, it did not change any opinions when I told them that I was extremely strict with my diet, in the gym 7 days a week and walking 15-20km/day (and had extensive knowledge, notes, data and an article about me on the men's health website to prove it). Some even commented that they thought I used to look "buff" when I was extremely obese and suggested I go back to that. I never took it personal though, their opinions were coming from a place of ignorance.
I think this idea that obesity=healthy stems from the country reducing the number of people living in poverty and the introduction of cheap calories in the past several decades. They just don't know any better...though many will be learning through huge medical bills and early deaths in the very near future. I believe many Western civilizations have went through this exact thing before (glorification of obesity...which is not the same as the dereistic thinking of today). The government will likely step in and push nutritional/exercise classes in schools and PSAs, I could even see them adding junk foods under the "sin tax" (gluttony is a sin, right?), once it gets completely out of hand and hospitals start complaining to politicians about not getting paid.-

I have never been to a Starbucks and not about to start now. I don't need a $5.00 cup of coffee.

A tad too serious, I suspect. So what if he likes to take the p*ss out of himself and Kiwi's or Yanks for that matter... Lighten up it's in meant to be good fun and not attacking anyone personally.-

Who cares if someone criticizes/ trolls/ whatever?
If a stranger/ strangers criticize me I honestly couldn't give a monkeys. By reacting, getting annoyed, or indeed starting a post about it, you are just giving them the attention they desire but don't deserve.
If one ignores them like one would an irritating little child they soon stop

Good day PatO! And Semper Fi....I've been following your life in Dumaguete since you were a newbie....I read your adventures settling in..learned heaps about life in Dumagete/Negros..and kept with it thru your health issue....Pure respect mate....Not just for your own personal challenges....But your candid posts.....across - what is it?...A decade or maybe more...? I have been following this and other forums ( but this is my favourite by far)....And it is looking like we will be making the move to Bacolod fairly soon....I had some health issues myself but with the right treatments and doctors....It is looking up....I feel much better and my wife is of course eager to return to her homeland - originally from La Carlota. I think I have a decade or two in me to enjoy the amazing large lot we have in a secure Talisay subdivision....which would be wonderful...but also enable us to explore, Negros, the Philippines, and the world....courtesy of only being 3km from the 'new' Bacolod Airport. Bloody oath I will visit....You have been a stalwart, level-headed contributor and I salute you for not being too enthralled - but giving very honest and informative posts. Cheers....and Semper Fi......
Hang in their mate....I am looking forward to knocking on your front door and teaching you how to drink beer.....-

- Thread: up date on Phil Prins
Just saw the CCTV footage. This is a tragedy and could have been avoided. We don't know exactly what happened especially inside the Bar. But it appears that Phil
were looking after a Filipino when he came out of the Bar. We don't know what the heated argument was all about outside of the Bar which caused
this brutal attack on him.
This is a reminder to all of us. Stay out of trouble with Filipinos if possible. They are not afraid to kill you for nothing. Just walk away from trouble if possible.
I know it's not easy sometimes. But it's not worth fighting with them. At the end you will be the looser.
I feel very sorry for Phil and his Family. Dying so young for nothing is hard to accept.
And hopefully this cowards don't see the light of the day anymore.-
