A little man in a field of Giants
Rob Burrows was 5'5" a Scrum half for Leeds Rhinos UK.
Against all odds he made his presence both on the field and off, known to thousands.
At such a young age he fell foul to Motor Neurone Disease and died 8 days ago after a tremendous battle against the disease. Rob was 41 years old.
The love and care of his family and close friends is to be admired.
"In a world full of adversity, we must dare to dream"......Rob Burrow

HAPPY NEW YEAR to EVERYONE!
I am wondering if I am optimistic or pessimistic, so I will quote something I read very recently and which applies forever:
The current year will be WORSE than the previous one
But BETTER than the next one.

Silence is a powerful tool
It can work for you or against you,
Michaelangelo is quoted in todays "UCB Word for Today", as a visionary when he picked up a piece of marble, what one person saw as worthless he saw differently.
So long as people are silent or silenced, change will never come about.
"The pen is mightier than the sword" and a more peaceful means.
In 2023 we will have choices, it will come down to, are we willing to pay the price?
My hope for 2023 is that we will see Peace return to this troubled world.
May we all have a year that sees the changes we would like to see.......JB-

Short answer is yes we do
Lets be honest and admit it....What do you take for granted?
The story told of a man who was asked, what's the first thing you do when you wake up?
He replied, I stick my elbows out in both directions!
Why would you do that he was asked......To make sure I'm not in my coffin!!!
Well that might be taking things to extreme...... but just think of the things you take for granted.-

Imagine trying to learn English and it's expressions how hard it must be for foreigners.
Here's a few expressions.......
Ever wondered why Funerals starts with Fun!
If money doesn't grow on trees why call banks branches?
If a Vegetarians eat vegetables, what do Humanitrians eat?
How do you get off a Non-Stop flight!
Why are goods sent by ships called Cargo and those sent by truck called Shipment ?
How come Noses run and Feet smell?
A 100 years ago everyone travelled by horses 0nly the rich had cars,
today everyone has cars and only the rich own horses!.......Just a thought-

That's how bad the schools system is in the Philippines. The question is will it become better in the future ? I doubt it.

I'm a retired expat living in Bangkok for 4 years, and I am very impressed with the posters here (no BS). Why? You are respectful. The largest and most common expat website in Thailand is Thaivisa.com (some of you may know it), and on every thread, at least 30 percent of the responses are sarcastic, cynical snarks. Its so bad we expats just joke about it and accept it is the case. What really got me noticing about the courtesy of folks here is someone had posted a thread about how to meet a nice women in the PI. Oh my gosh...I was ready for a 80% put-down rate, just knew almost all the responses would be who could be the funniest jackass in insulting the poster. I was amazed that there were serious replies, all of them I believe. Now I am wondering why that is...meaning why the posters in Thailand are so jaded.
