    Forum Rules

This is a community of Filipinos, expats and tourists, both experienced and inexperienced. Your behavior here, and ours, can be summed up in 4 words: “Mi casa, su casa” (my house is your house). The Dumaguete Info Forums is a place where it's okay to be yourself as long as you always act with respect for your fellow members as well as the Dumaguete Info staff. Our goal will be to treat our members as we would wish to be treated in their homes. In return, we ask that you act here as you wish for your own members to act in your home. You are not expected to leave your personality at the door. There are going to be topics and discussions that will have heated debates. Please think before you post and re-read what you type before you post it. Keep your comments limited to the debate at hand and do not make this a personal issue between you and another member.

There is tremendous diversity in age, race, gender, language, location (worldwide) and more here and there will be a lot of varying opinions on different subjects. We're all human beings and we're all drawn to this site because we have a common bond as Filipinos, expats and tourists living in or visiting Dumaguete. We will willingly listen to your suggestions and complaints, and try to incorporate your ideas into the Board.

If you come across any violations to these guidelines or have any problems navigating the site, do not hesitate to let us know through the Dumaguete Info Contact Form. We'll be happy to address your concerns. Here at the Dumaguete Info we encourage everyone to participate in and enjoy the Community while at the same time adhering to these Guidelines:

    Be Welcoming!

When newcomers arrive, welcome them to our growing community. Many of our community's senior members are a wealth of knowledge and have much to share. Help new members learn about how to find information and resources, save time, and how to get involved in the Community.

    Be Courteous!

Don't attack others. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Challenge others' points of view and opinions, but do so respectfully and thoughtfully ... without insult and personal attack.

    Be Cautious!

Think before you post or speak: Do you really want to put your address or telephone number on a public discussion forum? We encourage you to keep personal information personal.

In the same vein, do not ask for personal information from others. Discussion forum posts that request members to submit personal information to another party will be removed. Information that should be considered personal includes but is not limited to your home phone number, name, and age. If you must give this out for any reason, please do so privately.

    Be Forthcoming!

Please identify all potential conflicts of interest clearly. If you are commenting on an issue or product that you have a financial interest in, you should identify this relationship.

    Be Appropriate!

There may be places where explicit, obscene or vulgar language, graphics or behavior is appropriate however Dumaguete Info is not one of those places. Posts containing explicit, obscene or vulgar language will be removed. Similarly, posts that solicit or offer explicit or X-rated GIFs, JPEGs or similar content files will be deleted without notice! Links to Websites with adult content/images anywhere on the site will be removed. Simply put, we do not wish to be seen as supporting any site that contains adult content - adult content being defined as any material that you would not feel comfortable showing to your spouse, your teenagers, or your boss and co-workers. In other words, anything which is "NWS" (not work safe). This represents our values and our desire to appeal to the widest possible audience not to mention keeping clear of any restrictions that our present or future advertisers might have regarding acceptable content.

    Be Ethical!

The Dumaguete Info website: resources, articles and discussions are based on basic, appropriate professional ethical behavior. Unethical behavior: use of other admin's member lists for PM invites, email invites, spamming, warez, license sharing, and other illegal activities are completely inappropriate and will result in the loss of membership at Dumaguete Info.

    Be Nice!

Dumaugete Info is a community and our members are our primary resource. Please play nicely with others whether you agree with them or not. Don't taunt or otherwise bully your fellow community members! This includes posts, profile comments, PC's, and post ratings. Anyone who uses such means to torment another member will find their ability to post, comment, PC, and/or rate posts curtailed, temporarily or permanently.

    Signature Guidelines

-The maximum font size allowed in signature lines is 2. -The maximum number of lines in a signature is 3. -The maximum number of links or URLs in a signature is 2. -No images allowed in signatures except for a maximum of 4 Dumaguete Info smilies. -Signature text should comply with our regular posting rules. No all-caps, no alternating caps, etc.. -Signature links can not be bought and sold! You may include only links to your own sites. -Signature text that is too long or obtrusive will be removed. This would include overly creative use of punctuation, color, etc. which make the signature too flashy. -Signatures with just your username will be removed. Usernames are on the top of every post, so there's no need to have it in your signature too. -No affiliate links! -Links to other Communities may include referral ID's.

If your signature is in violation of any of these new rules, the Staff may remove it without prior notice. If you have any questions as to whether something is acceptable, please PM a Staff Member.

No Abuse of the Anonymous Posting Feature

Dumaguete Info has an Anonymous Posting feature which is provided to allow for members to start threads and post replies without revealing their identity to the community. As you might expect, Dumaguete Info Admins know the identity of anonymous posters. This feature should not be used in situations where anonymity is not necessary. In addition, it must not be used to post anything which violates our usual posting guidelines. Improper use of the Anonymous Posting feature may result in an infraction, and/or restoration of the user's true identity to the post(s) in question.

    No Cross-Posting

Do not post the same discussion more than once on a discussion forum or on many forums. Duplicate discussions are frustrating and counterproductive for other members, especially for those whose time and energy is limited. Duplicate discussions will be deleted.

    No Advertising – Spam

Do not heedlessly place your advertisements through the Discussion Forums. This will be considered SPAM and could result in the loss of your Dumaguete Info Community Membership. Affiliate links are not allowed within the forums. If you wish to promote a particular program then promote the program not your own affiliate tie with it.

No Abuse of Dumaguete Info messaging systems (PM's, IM's, and email form)

Personal Messaging is provided to the members of the Dumaguete Info as a service intended to enhance the Community experience. The purpose of personal messaging is to allow for discreet conversations to take place between members. This privilege is not to be abused! Solicitation, spamming, or harassment of any kind is strictly forbidden. Any member receiving an inappropriate personal message should forward that message to an Administrator or Moderator right away. Although PM's are normally only accessible by those who send and receive them, they are part of the database and as such, property of Dumaguete Info. An Administrator, if so inclined, could locate the Private Messages in the database and read them. They are private, but not necessarily secret. In addition, Private Messages are not intended to deprive the Community of valuable information or experiences which could benefit the entire group. Please do not use private messages if the content of the message can be helpful to others.

    Competing Sites

The internet is a big place, and it's no surprise that from time to time a site will come along whose mission is to occupy the same niche as Dumaguete Info. We have no issue with that. However, it would be against our best interests, and therefore the best interests of our members, for us to allow such sites to build upon our popularity by promoting themselves on Dumaguete Info. Therefore, no competing site may attempt to gain traffic from Dumaguete Info in any way, including but not limited to, links in posts, signatures, profile information, PM's, emails, or IM's.

    No Copyrighted Material

Information copyrighted or owned by any individual or entity other than the member should not be posted on the discussion forums or software libraries without the consent of the owner. If such an event occurs, the individual posting the information shall be held solely responsible. Dumaguete Info shall not be held responsible for member-posted information that may violate copyright law.

You cannot legally post entire articles or news in the forum without permission from the copyright holder. Even if you attribute the article correctly it’s still copyright infringement. Copyright law does not care if you make any money off of the work or not, what matters is if you hurt the potential income of the copyright holder. In this case you would be depriving them of ad revenue and it is illegal. Under Fair Use provisions you can legally post a small abstract of an article - or perhaps the opening paragraph. So if you want to post an article you should do this and include a link, or just post the link. The exception to this rule is press releases; press releases are meant for distribution and can be copied and distributed as much as you want. If you are not sure if you can copy something then always err on the side of caution and simply post a link to the material.

    Dumaguete Info Discretion

Dumaguete Info and its assigned agents reserves the right to remove a post which does not relate to the topic being discussed in the forum. In addition, Dumaguete Info reserves the right to organize discussion forums in order to best serve the majority of our members. For example, narrow-interest or minimal activity topics may, at Dumaguete Info discretion, be relocated to a more appropriate discussion forum, or deleted entirely. Dumaguete Info or its assigned agents also reserves the right to prohibit or delete discussions that are thought to violate applicable law or that may be harmful to other members, the sites that comprise Dumaguete Info or the rights of Dumaguete Info or others. That said, we cannot ensure prompt removal of offending discussion forum posts. We also reserve the right to remove your membership from you should you violate these Guidelines. However, we do not delete accounts once they are activated.

Considering the real-time nature of this bulletin board, it is impossible for Dumaguete Info to review all messages or confirm the validity of information posted. Please remember that Dumaguete Info does not actively monitor the contents of all posted messages and is not responsible for any messages posted. Dumaguete Info does not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and is not responsible for the contents of any message. The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of Dumaguete Info or any entity associated with Dumaguete Info. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately through the “Report” a post link or by email. Dumaguete Info has the ability to remove objectionable messages and will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if it is determined that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately, in fact, we may not edit or delete posts that break our rules at all. We have many time constraints on us and cannot guarantee that we will be able to edit or delete posts that break the rules/user agreement. If you do not agree with this then do not view or register for Dumaguete Info. Although this Discussion Forum does not and cannot review the messages posted and is not responsible for the content of any of these messages, we at Dumaguete Info reserve the right to delete any message for any or no reason whatsoever. You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless Dumaguete Info, Xenforo Ltd. (the makers of the bulletin board software), and their agents with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s). We at this discussion forum also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by you.

Use of the site is at the discretion of the Administration of Dumaguete Info, and that any use may be terminated by the Administration at any time.

Off topic for real. As of this week I am one super proud Father. My Daughter was promoted to "Inspector Police Sergeant" and is also currently studying coarse's at Cambridge University in U.K. Her passion is to be a Judge, or Magistrate. This is my very proud ( Father) moment as attached. Cheers!

Maybe true maybe not. It depends on how you define success.

My brother the accountant sits in a fancy retirement home with a gold plated toilet, not that he really needs it as a nurse wipes hit butt regularly with 3 ply tissue. The high points in his life revolve around which stock trades brought him to his climax. He was always happy to screw anybody and everybody for the fun of winning.
For me well. I raced motor cycle, owned and rode some fine horses at the international level (bottom end, but still). Had a few nice trucks, travelled around a lot for work and pleasure.

My Bro can sit around with nothing of importance to say and I can sit around with friends and a case of cheap beer and have stories to tell.

Who succeeded? That depends on how you define success.

    I don't know.
My Son is 5yrs soon to be 6 and I will be over there for his Birthday early Dec, I'm hoping to get him and his Mum over here to Scotland, I had built a house there for them both to live long term but now realise it would be better for them both to reside in Scotland.

My big concern is for him to get a good education, I'm sure even the best Private Schools there in PH fall short of what can be had here in UK, I have another son of 47yrs here in UK he has done so well for himself, now owning his own business, educated here in a mainstream School to then go on to get a degree at Edinburgh University, none of this cost me a penny as Education is free for everyone in Scotland.

Eldest Son has taken and interest in his half brother and even visited him there in PH, I was back in UK at this time, however as it happens he does Employ Filipinos there in Manila to assist in his business.

Another side to this is; if anything had to happen to me (soon to be 71yrs and officially a Coffin Dodger?) my big Son would be here and available to assist his young Brother in any way he could.

I think his hypothesis really applies to the Philippines. Many of the addicts in the Philippines don't have a pot to p*ss in and have absolutely no purpose in life. The government should be more focused on lifting up the poor than shooting them or throwing them in prison.

I see the humor in the article but deep down it just re-enforces the stereotype that wrinkly old 'geezers' should stay in their room or play cribbage all day.

Words like "codgers, old-folks, wrinkly-Romeos, geezers, oldtimers, and the scariest thing in my life" just contribute to the prejudice against retired folk having a life. If this kind of language was used against gays or people of colour the civil liberties people would be out in force but no-one in the first world seems to give a sh*t about retired folk. Thank you Philippines for allowing me to continue having a life.

    My wife is from Cebu.
Years ago we moved to Negros and build our home here in Dumaguete.

I encouraged her to convince her sister to live with us. Since then she is with us permanently. Her brother and mother are visiting us frequently, as well as a nephew. Provided they got days off from work. They have there own rooms in our house. I am more than happy to welcome them at any given time. The door is wide open.

This works out perfectly for us since many years already. It gives us more freedom to travel around cause there is always somebody in the house to feed the dogs and taking care of things.

Family of my wife is pretty well connected and countless times they were able to manage things or just helping us with daily routines like government stuff, permits, visa or whatsoever. It makes life easier if you have good partners.

I never understood why people saying you should keep your wifes family away from you, live on a different island and stuff like that. If you really have to do that you just choosed the wrong wife. Simple as that.

You didn't start this thread for flak or nonsense and I won't give you any.
I too was a die hard Win 7 user and very unhappy about moving onto Win10 but most motherboard manufacturers have stopped making hardware drivers compatible with Windows 7. Luckily you have a Dell which is one of the last remaining brands providing work-arounds to install Win7 on their hardware - here and here.
Like it or not you will eventually be left with the choice of writing your own drivers or changing your operating system.
Until then you'll likely be stuck on the same hardware with your browser and other software continuing to grow the resources they require making your system slower and less stable. Who knows, that might work for you or maybe you halt all updates to maintain your system in it's current state, if so good for you.
For anyone considering a move to Win10, here's my advice.
I've been on 10 now for about 4 months, it's annoying at times but if you turn all the "helpful" features off it's considerably better than Win7. During the installation of Win10 don't link a Microsoft account unless you want your activities tracked, and disable anything you're not familiar with in the installer. Next go to Remove programs and remove all the bloatware like Candy crush and Xbox. Some annoyingly can't be removed but they are not intrusive or collecting data.
Windows Search has always been crap but in Win10 it's useless, I recommend disabling the search indexing service and installing Locate32. Task manager is wank too so I recommend Process Hacker. Once that's done you'll have a system that you can't find anything in but if you hit the windows key and start typing what you want you'll get the hang of where stuff is.
Change is inevitable and "never" is eternity - the two are not compatible.
