I'd like to do a one day round trip (if possible), Duma to Cebu City in a pickup. Can anyone recommend the best combination of ferry / road route. Thanks
If it is possible to go on a Sunday, then leave from Sibulan on the first Maayo ferry at 6 am Sunday morning and you can be in Cebu shortly after 9 am. Just follow the coast. Thats the only time you can do it that fast. Coming back, Sunday evening, leave Cebu by 5 pm at the latest to catch the 9 pm sailing back to Sibulan/Duma
When we used to have to go there we used to leave on the first amlan on the 4am ferry and get to the other side of Cebu around 10am then leave Cebu around 2.30pm and got back here around 7pm This was also in a pickup and was a killer of a drive with little or few stops.
Did you go up the west side of Cebu and then cross over? I'm thinking that road is maybe not as busy.
That's really too bad, because doing it on Sunday morning is not only quicker but much less stress. Its actually a nice morning drive on Sundays or holidays, but other days it takes longer and the stress of fighting traffic is much worse so by the time you get back you will likely be frazzled. If I cannot do the round trip on Sundays or holidays I tend to like to stay the night in Cebu. Much less stressful, at least for me.
The drive is not too bad from the port up to carcar but then it turns into a mind f*ck of crap and fools! I personally would never attempt to do it in one day ever again, and if I can avoid it never go full stop!
Oops. Quoting my own post as I made a mistake. Early on Sunday mornings it is just a hair under 3 hours from Liloan, Santander to the edge of Cebu city. That's driving a pick up truck at approximately 80 to 90 kph, which is do-able on a Sunday morning (yes I have done it). Due to the time crossing on the Maayo ferry it will be closer to 10 am than 9 am when you arrive in Cebu.
To make it clear: West side route is Bato-Moalboal-Barili-Carcar-Cebu city. Road is good, less traffic. East side is where several bus companies race/rage, several towns slow You down... Have been riding both routes lately. West side wins.
