So it is a form of a "humble brag"?

Perhaps I am not in-line with other people's thinking but I see no value in letting anyone know if I have something new - it might make them envious and also adds zero to my own life.

I suggest you hang out with the wrong crowd if they are envious of your success. Is that not the start of "crab mentality". For me, I give me friends an "attaboy" when they finally achieve something I know they have been striving for.

However, if you are filthy rich and buying new stuff every day I will quickly run out of "attaboys" so best you keep it to yourself.

I don't recall I said I had any friends who are envious of me. If I did then I would not notice and I would not care.

It is probably that I don't care for success via material possessions.

Yes! The problem is they have this mentality that boasting is unacceptable and in a way (tiptoeing?) to avoid that behavior, they end up in a much annoying act.

Looking at the specific example, I could have brought some booze to celebrate with my friend instead of getting annoyed.

    It usually is...isn't it?
I'd rather deal with the meek and insecure than I would an arrogant braggart any day of the week. What are the insecure people going to do when their indirect methods for getting attention don't work? Go in the corner and sulk? Meh.

I agree. I think of it as cute most of the time. I care a lot that’s why when I don’t get anything more after replying their “how are you”, I assume it may be the crappy internet or lack of “load” so I check fb for more. Sometimes I do get too pushy because I’ve been there so I hope they won’t reach my age regretting.
