So I could go out there to just eat and watch people work? Like a plantation owner role playing type of thing? I could get into that.
I'm sure there has been discussion on this before in the forum, but aren't much of the veggies you buy here already organic? The reason I say this is because veggies don't seem to last long here. I also don't notice much of a difference in buying veggies from the market vs Robinson's.
I think the short storage duration of veg here may be due more to temp/humidity. I try to keep as much as possible in the fridge - not too crowded and def with the plastic wrappings removed or opened up. One big difference Robs v Market is price! I think carrots, for example, are at least twice the price in the stores compared with local markets. My wife has relatives who grow veg (but too far away for us to benefit!) and she believes that they use artificial fertilisers (sometimes along with organics such as chicken manure) - this includes her parents who grow veg just for personal use. I suspect that there is a wholesale use of artificial fertilisers (plus insecticides/herbicides) as they are easier to use. I am not aware if 'food standards inspectors' exist but I suspect, if so, they have a huge task on their hands. Because of the price differential, it would be beneficial for growers to describe their food products (including meats) as 'organic' - even if they are not. Who is going to know?
Exactly. There is no difference on the health benefits of "organic" vs...."non-organic(?)" food. Drives me absolutely nuts trying to buy food. Trying to find "sliced bread" is d*mn near impossible. It's all gluten free this, organic that...can I not just buy some f'in "sliced bread" anymore? Some of these companies are charging $20/loaf online. Back in my day there used to only be "white bread" and "wheat bread"...and it was $2-3/loaf. Gotta make that crap myself now like my grandparents did back in their day. lol
I think you are right about the use of fertilizer, only the big farms use that, it costs money. I bought my veggies in the organic market in Daro before, but too far away, I'm too lazy, so I go to Valencia every Sunday, closer to Bacong. Veggies here are really cheap when you buy in the right places and the vendors' start knowing you. Animal welfare is another topic if it was possible, I would only eat food which grows or live wild, no farming
"Stressing about how to get to or achieve the stated goal in the Philippines will drive you insane. Just go with it." Who said that Mr W?
Nice! Easy enough for them to make a mint julep for you with local ingredients as long as you can get a good bourbon from somewhere. Make sure you have the white suit and white Stetson, though.
