Negros road trip Jan 2020

The main roads crossing the mountains are well paved and generally in good condition. Smaller roads can be anything from pristine concrete to muddy dual track.

The highway from Tanjay to Bayawan is a very scenic ride and in very good condition. Can be part of a round trip from Dumaguete when going back along the coast, or you could take that road when going to Sipalay.

 

Road is nice and curvy. Great for motorcycles!
You can also take the ferry boat to sipaway island when you get to san carlos. The beaches on that island are quite nice.

i'd be interested in hearing how the road between Sibulan and San Carlos, N.O. compares to the road between Toledo and Santander, Cebu.

pavement, average speed of traffic, white vans, big trucks and buses <groan>, places of interest, etc.

Both roads are very comfortable to ride on, others here already gave you some info, all I will add is the first part from Toledo and south is very beautiful but can't beat San Carlos over Don Salvador Benedicto it's beautiful mountain and fun riding with many curves and up and downs. Idiots on the roads everywhere, trucks and buses come in your lane when you go in a blind curve, see the danger ahead and enjoy

 

Sibulan to San Carlos is a nice ride, got the Nmax to 80kph a few times with two up. The traffic wasn't to bad. Road this part on Sunday.

I cannot compare it to that side of Cebu as I haven't ridden that road. But I can compare it to Car Car to Santander and Negros is much better than Cebu in all aspects.

I'm currently well into this trip and in Bacolod at the moment.

What I will say is for the first time in a very long time I felt a bit unsafe in San Carlos. Not sure what it was just a feeling I got and at one stage felt someone was following us home from the car park at the pier.

 

LP fan I ended up riding San Carlos to Mount Canlaon. Then took the short cut road from Mount Canlaon through to Don Salvador then down to Bacolod.

Nice roads like you said. The only bad section was a few bits on the short cut.

 

Imho you miss the best part which is San Carlos to Don Salvador Benedicto. I assume you are in Bacolod now, maybe you can ride that stretch on your way back or on another bike tour. On my last tour, I go Bacolod over Sagay back to San Carlos, nice ride, the road is good and not that much traffic, same time, not that much to see, sugar cane area, but can be nice make a stop in small towns there, not every day they see tourist or white people. Toledo to Santander is a much better experience than Santander to Carcar close to coast almost all the time, make a stop in Moalboal, it's a tourist place, many foreigners, the good side nice beach and easy to find decent food.

 

I have ridden to Moalboal a few times from the Carcar Rd and also through the mountains from Argao. But haven't been to any other places that side of Cebu yet. May take that route home to Argao and cut over the mountain before Moalboal. The mountain roads are a bit hit and miss in that area.

When I took the short cut from Mt Canlaon I ended up half way from San Carlos to Don Salvador. Still got some nice roads maybe not all of it. The ride up to Mt Canlaon was also nice.

Tomorrow I will be riding Bacolod to Sipalay.

 

I’ve done Santander up to Tangil, cross to Guigulngan and return. There are some nice falls north of Santander and the road on Cebu’s west coast is good swoopy two-lane without too much traffic.
Also done Duma to Bagawines on the coast road (other direction). North of Bais is twistier and less traffic. Just not too much to eat. The Lalimar is probably the nicest place up there to eat or stay. From Bagawines we did the mountain road to Tagbino and then north to the Eco Highway and DSB. There’s a few falls around there worth a trek on the road back to Bacolod. We went north instead, again on the Eco Highway which is a great fast road that starts twisty and then straightens out while climbing out past Mt. Canlaon. At Calatrava we took the AE Marianon extension to Bato and onto Sagay City, which is another nice road, a bit off the beaten track. Two lane concrete. Stayed overnight in Cadiz City (utterly unmemorable). Next day we visited Langkawon Island from Cadiz Viejo and immediately regretted not overnighting there.
Coast road from there to Bacolod was good but not fantastic... mostly wide and fast but heavy traffic and rather ugly towns. Views to the mountains should have been nice but weather was bad. Home in a hurry via KK, Mabinay and Bais, which is a fun road but sadly also in heavy rain.
