Travelling Cebu - Duma

There is a curfew but even before that, traffic is light. We returned from dinner one night from Mandaue to Lahug and there were long stretches without any cars. This was about 7:30-8:00 at night.

 

Last time I was in Cebu city before covid-19, it took me almost 30 min. by taxi to get from Robinsons Fuente to Ayala. Should I have decided to walk would have been faster.

 

It is not only the travel time but also the waiting time (like stopping distance in a vehicle) - and the waiting time can be much worse. After waiting a very long time in a queue outside SM Mall for a taxi at about 11 pm, my asawa took matters into her own hands and went to the road to hail a taxi. When one stopped and pulled up at the next gap in the sidewalk (for you Americans), my asawa shouted to me "Quick" (a succinct order, but I love being bossed about) and I quickened my pace - only to trip over a large block of concrete (with about 6 ins of metal post sticking up) IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SIDEWALK! I fell over, face first. But life can be so kind - earlier my asawa bought makeup (of course) and was given a free trolley suitcase - large size and quite soft. I fell on that! Many Filipinos rushed to pick me up - I have never felt so helpless and old.

Moral of this LONG story: Stay in the queue (there is a God watching you!); don't rush; don't wear shades at 11 pm; always have a soft suitcase; don't get old.

 

Your tumbling could have ended much worse, so praise yourself happy it did not happen. The positive of all the way people around were immediately there to help you. Staying in the queue is one, the 2nd and 3rd advice for what it is worth and yeah what's old...!!??
But even when standing in the queue it can happen when you are first in line and the taxi driver is asking for your destination he's not interested as a trip from Ayala to Fuente late in the evening is about 60 peso and thus refusing you. I also learn my lessons so next time I will tell him Carcar but we have to make a stop to pick up somebody and of course that particular person is no longer there. So ending up by paying what's on the meter......60 peso.

 

Great idea (but a bit naughty!) - I am imagining you doing that and the driver either misunderstands you, knows the trick or does not want to stop part way. So he drives at a fast speed directly to CarCar!

 

Ha, ha, yes I could be in some kind of a problem, nevertheless the next traffic light turning on red and the driver has to stop I am out. That is, he's obeying traffic rules as you never know in the Phils he he.
