⌛ Banking

Hi all, we will be leaving Manila this evening will arrive Dumaguete early Saturday.

Have question, I am wondering which bank the members find the best use.
Just need quickest service and internet banking, not so worried about atm.

Any info would be much appreciated.

 

BPI has internet banking, quick service? Not really! If you want quick service then stay outside of the bank. Where did you do your banking?

 

We have been very pleased with Unionbank. Look into Eon and/or Ewallet accounts. Eon has no minimum balance and no monthly fees, only P350 per year maintenance. We opened a new account in 30 minutes without money!

We use BDO because they are now located at Robinson's Mall and we live south of the town and the bank manager is great. I was at BPI but the bank was always too crowded for me and in the town center.

 

I use Bpi (Slow sometimes) But I like Bank of Commerce, there is a minimum balance required, but the manager Leo is very personal to deal with and even get's you coffee if you like.

 

We have several bank accounts here, by far the best service Unionbank, friendly, fast, easy to deal with. Worst, BDO, a total pain in the back, everything takes ages with unreal requirements and has to be approved in Cebu and/or Manila if you need anything more than deposit money. Not that they are unfriendly, but they have no decision-power and if it is about my money I don't accept a "Maybe next week sir, we first have to ... blablabla"

 

BDO near the market was formerly Equitable bank and that was a complete disaster.
BDO in Robinson may have a new attitude.

 

they still can't make any decisions themselves,

for a simple address change from dauin to dumaguete they were asking from barangay- to tax-clearance to new pictures etc.,

Finally I told them, that I was joking and don't need an address change, as I just decided not to move, than I withdrew my few thousand peso I had there and good bye.

 

We use Chinabank, brilliant on line system, just like in the real world. We pay Globe, Smart, PLDT and a whole bunch of other bills on line.

I also use China Bank to bring in my $US, goes into my Dollar Account. I can then do my FX on line straight into my Peso Account. It is usually only 0.05 centavos off the money changer rates in Angeles and is sometimes better, especially before a weekend or holiday. The gas to drive to the money changer costs more than the difference.

SM and Robinsons accept Bancnet Debit Cards so groceries are paid for at the checkout using my ATM Card and Pin, straight out of the account.

Chinabank is part of bancnet, so we can transfer to any other member bank, up to P 20K per day, all my staff, maid, wife, etc get their money by on line transfer. IT is instant. Never had one lost transfer in over 10 years.

With Chinabank, we hardly ever have to go to the bank at all, it is all done on line or via ATM's if we need cash, no standing in line or sitting waiting for the ding dong and your number to come up.

If you bank with any Bancnet bank, you can ALSO do on line banking without joining the banks system, just go to Welcome to BancNet Online, you can pay bills, get you balances, just like an on line atm machine. All you need is your ATM Card and Pin, just like the ATM Machine. It is Very Secure but Requires you to install Java. I have used it for years, it is excellent. Only thing is I cannot get any damm money out of the computer :( (yet:D)

BDO, worst bank in the world, they still use abacus's and candles, BPI, great bank, but they do not connect very well into any other system so you are limited on what you can do.

Union Bank also have some good offerings but I do not think they connect well with other banks.

Thanks to all the members for the feed back. Looks like the Union Bank, gets the most ticks, The China bank also looks good, do not know if it is possible to open Australian $ account.
When we lived here back in seventies used the Manila Bank, unfortunately due to disagreement with gov. of day was shut down, and insurance only covered very little, so ended up losing some cash.
So a bit carefull with banks here these days.
