power received from the solar panels will need to be stored by batteries....not sure how much they go for in PI, but they're still quite expensive in US. Also, these batteries have limited life span & will need to be replaced from time to time. With Duma's high corrosive enviornment due to high temperature and humidity, I not sure is installing a solar system's would be cost effectiveness.

This is good info Jim,thanks so now we got some ideas. Might be better if he has a site we could visit or if its ok to advertise in this forum .Solar energy is green energy ,no carbon emission and no need to buy any fuel ,unlike generators.

I wish solar tech will step further up in its innovations .when there is growing demand for solar energy use then hopefully production of like solar panels and gadgets powered by it will be mass produced and will come cheaper.Nice thought having aircon rooms, electric fans working, even your cooker, hot water for bath all powered by solar source. But for now with that price tag one might need a lot more than £2K to set up .

What it needs on Negros is a reliable system of compensation to feed into the grid....I personally wouldn't mind spending the money to set up a system to keep us powered during brownouts....if I could feed excess power into the grid at other times. It is happening in other parts of the world.

On the subject of alternative power. I like solar, like wind, especially like a combination of both. One company that has really caught my eye...

Long-term cost effective...but initial capital costs are up there...

batteries have acid inside them, so corrosion won't be an issue, how do yer think cars and boats start.:D
Got a mate on Caron isle, he don't have an option, full solar power he gets by
all right, but he don't have a 50" plasma

a functional solar system consists of many complex electrical parts and wires, not just batteries. Also, cars and boats aren't immune to high humidity, temperature and corrosion either.

Strange Dane is not reacting to give an explanation about the 40000, as I am informed it is about 2 houses on the beach and he is renting one of them. That can change the story right?

When I was a kid back in the late 70's my friend and I aquired all the rudimentary solar panels being used for the switch and signal lights on the Old Galveston railroad line in Houston.
It was an obsolete RR line anyway, so it was OK to liberate the devices.
We had linesman climbing gear, 2 way radio, and used my Chevrolet for the getaway car.
I helped my bud box them up and we shipped them to his house on the mountain in Vermont. Got to play with them for a while, fascinating technology.
That was my into to solar power. :-)
