Hi. I'm Donald, an American retiree living in Siquijor. I've been visiting Dumaguete and the surrounding area for several years and settled in for good about two years ago. Looking forward to getting to know people on the forum--though my internet service is very irregular so I can't post too often. See you around town.
Welcome Donald. Just wondering what it is like to live full time on Siquijor. How is the power, cable tv, internet? Did you buy or build a home or rent there. I live in Bacong. Cheers
Hi PatO. Siquijor is beautiful, but infrastructure isn't great. We have quite a few brownouts, though that might be improving as generation is privatized. There are two satellite dish TV companies; Dream is one. Internet is ok in Siquijor town and Larena. In San Juan where I live it's only by phone or satellite (slow and expensive respectively). I've been renting houses. Places on the beach go from about P12,000/month to P30,000. I've always lived a bit off the beach and paid about P6000 for small and/or unfinished places. Cheers.
Home? Hi Donald, Jack P. saying hello, putting a side the Beauty, Do you feel glad to go back home after a visit to Dgte. I have to admit that when we go visiting we, sometimes, well most times, are just glad to get back home, even with all the sometimes discontent of the infrastructure here, I was just wondering, how you feel about the differences? Jack P.
Thanks for sharing that Donald. I live in Bacong and have pretty much equal infrastructure as you. I am waiting for the primary power line to be moved up to my area so if you have a primary power line, you are better off than I am, 15 min. from Robinson's Mall. Amazing
