We purchased most of our jewellry in HK, gold, silver and even diamonds. It was through a jeweller with a very good reputation with the local expat community. I agree with garbonzo that you have to be careful, and if you do find a reputable dealer, you get some savings, but not much.
never been to HK before, don't even know where the expat hangout, so will have to be extra careful. Staying there for 4 days so we can shop till we drop. :D
Oh you'll have fun! :D :D Love HK!! A very dynamic city! Public transportaion is very efficient and convenient. Great shopping for electronics (Nathan Street in Kowloon has the latest gadgets), sight seeing (check out the Peak at night!) the night markets are neat for shopping for clothing, great restaurants, cuisines from all over the world, britsh pubs...Ned Kelly's a great place for listening to live music, new orleans style jazz (all filipino band). It's all reasonably priced. We usually stay in Kowloon when we stopover. Don't go out of your way, but if you have a chance, the jewellry store that I mentioned earlier is in the Hyatt Regency shopping center in Kowloon,(it's been 8 years since we last visited, hopefully he's still there). The store is called "The Leading Co.", and his name is Jimmy Ma. 4 days?! Lucky bugger!!
