Why do they call the boats "Pump Boat" is there a special meaning to that?
I thought maybe it had something to do with diving.
OK I found a wiki on the pump boat being an outrigger canoe with a motor. Any Idea why that name?

Also I have read the term "packjaw" used on the forum regarding an estimate. Our contractor has also used the term in regards to an estimate. I did a google search and found a definition that was pretty nasty Just wondering what is meant by the term.

I'm hoping that some of you fine people on the forum and edify me.

    Thanks

The term "pump boat" comes from the engine that is commonly used. Many use Briggs and Stratton water pump engines connected to the propeller shaft to power the boat.

"Pakyaw" is a vernacular term refering to a total job order cost as opposed to paying the contractor and workers by the hour/day and any incidental costs.

    Thanks.

I glad the definition of pakyaw was not the same as the definition for packjaw I found earlier.

"Packjaw" is what Bohol people say for "Pakyaw" in Dumaguete. They mean the same thing.

A similar way of looking at it:

Pakyaw - think of this as the "wholesale price" or as it refer to contractual agreement, the total cost of the whole job, etc.

The opposite of this is "Tingi" or sometimes said as "tingi-tingi" ask around for the pronunciation - this in general means the "retail price" or price per piece either referring to specific job or merchandise.

Pacquiao - on the other hand does not need any further introduction, is almost synonymous to the totality of all the championship belts in the boxing world in several weight class ...hehehe
