⌛ mini christmas lights

i use clear mini christmas lites for accent lighting and i wasn't thinking when i packed 2 strings (50 lites/15.5 ft cord) of 120 volt lites in my luggage. i'll be in duma wed and thurs if anyone wants them. i'd like to find some 240v strings, has anyone seen them in the stores (now)?

Just buy a 240v to 120v transformer

 

Connect the 2 strings in series and you will have 100 240volt lights.

 

How so? More likely a string of 100 flash bulbs going off when plugged into 24ov! :D

step down transformer? ahhhh... now i remember. i took a bunch of electrical notes before i moved here but totally forgot about them, thanks for jogging my memory. now for the treasure hunt, where to find a transformer...

How so?

Ohm's law - V=IR

where V is EMF in volts, I is current in AMPS ans R is Resistance in OHMS

If you double the the resistance (R) by joining the two strings together in SERIES, then you need twice the voltage (V) to make it work.

It's simple physics.

 

but that doesn't double the resistance. Its the the lights themselves that are the resisters, having the bulbs in series affects the overall resistance of the strings very little...the physics of xmas lights...enjoy

Yes the bulbs themselves are resistors - therefore if you have double the number of bulbs you have double the resistance - IF YOU CONNECT THE TWO STRANDS IN SERIES. I am not talking about simply wiring them into the same plug - that would be a parallel connection.

 

Kelpguy this is how you do it.

Buy yourself a single plug and some electrical tape. Cut the existing plugs off each strand. (I assume they can't be detached any other way) Take ONE wire from EACH strand of lights and join them together. Wrap the join with electrical tape. ( It would be better to solder the joint or use a connector - if you can find one) These wires do not go into the plug. Take the remaining two wires, one from each strand of lights and connect them into the plug in the normal way. Plug the lights in and everything should be fine.
