After spending the weekend in Dumaguete I kind of chuckled when I noticed next to nobody wearing helmets..I drove all the way to Bayawan and back on a 250p rented death trap from one of the dealers by the OK Pension..My other stupid question is whats the deal with no mirrors??None of the rentals had them and most of cycles I saw around the city did not have them??Is this a Dumaguete thing????

We dont need no stinkin mirrors or horns. Just enjoy the ride amigo. Why worry? Slow down, you want civilization go back to Cebu or Manila.

Ha ha, yeah I guess it is a "Dumaguete thing". Personally I don`t really miss mirrors, when riding a motorcycle, as it is fairly easy to turn your head to look around you. Bicycles don´t have mirrors either, and I have never heard about anyone, who missed them

As for not using helmets, this is actually against the law in Dumaguete, but the law is not enforced. And for a short ride around town, a helmet is hardly essential, as the speed will be low anyway.

However if you plan to use your motorcycle for long distance travel, e.g. the trip to Bayawan, I suggest that you bring you own helpet, next time you visit. Because as you noticed already, the rental shops in Dumaguete usually can not supply you with one.

Also no mufflers = better fuel consumption. Never mind the neighbors at 3AM.

You guys in dumaguete city can consider yourselves lucky. Here in dipolog city the fine for non helment is p2000 and if your passenger does not have one its another p2000. But what kills me. It can be a baseball batters helment or a hard hat or a football helment. No safety regulations at all. And the closer it gets to christmas the more fines they had out. I hate helments but always ware mine when out and about....cowboy
