Hello Friends – I have recently relocated from the USA and am pleased to find Dumaguete much as described by folks on this forum. Am anxiously awaiting new posts concerning where to buy fresh milk and the results of Relayer’s quest for tomatoes. I wonder whether anyone has spied zucchini squash? Best wishes to all.
Greetings Tartaruga, Welcome to the forum, I guess you have used it for information before joining us. No doubt your questions will be answered by those living in Dumaguete at present. Please contribute your views as well to help others visiting the site. regards.....JB
Good day Tartaruga! a national vegetable congress just opened at Negros Oriental convention center maybe it is worth a visit. Goth
milk The best milk here is from the dairy plant, near to Mercury Drug at the Agricultural Department off National Highway. It is also found in Lee Supermarket refrigerated section under the name of Norient. Here is a link to a thread about just this subject: http://www.dumagueteinfo.com/board/expat-section/real-fresh-milk-9109.html
Zuchini squash is frequently but not always available in the supermarkets. I've found supposedly organic tomatoes and romain lettuce also. I don't know how organic they were but they tasted better than the stuff normally available here.
The tomatoes this time a year at the market are very good AND red. The "season" will not last long so better take advantage from it.
Welcome Tartaruga. How do you find Dumaguete. We have pros and cons on the forum. Hope it works out as well for you as it has for me.
Yes, get as many of this lovely red tomatoes right now, very good stuff indeed, then go and get white onions and garlic, olive oil(the good stuff) and Mc Cormick "Italian" dried herbs mix and make your own "Sugo", fill it into sterilized jars and you have them preserved for the time when there are non available. Does anybody tried to dry tomatoes?
