Welcome Ron. You are Ron #4 (could be more). We have RonEtue, Expatron and myself.
I also did HVAC/R for for many years but the last few were in the design of one-off HVAC/R units that were Class 1, Division 1 explosion-proof for the petro-chemical industry.
I have lived here a little over a year and married for a little less than a year.
Fell free to participate and ask any questions.
    Again, welcome

When i build my house there i will drill a well and use a watercooled condenser i beleive it would cost maybe a third for ac.It seems nobody there worries about insulation and also i havnt seen roof venting.

    Hi Vandykr, welcome.
    I'm HVAC qualified!
But I built in Valencia, so I got to skip the whole d*mn problem. Stand fan rules the roost up here, been getting too cold for even that lately.

I have to agree with Manzanita. The first couple of months here without a/c were tough, but then I adjusted to not having it. On the hotest nights I have a 3sp. stand fan in our bedroom. And yes, it has been too "cool" (70F) At night for even that.
I seriuosly doubt that I'll ever use a/c at home here.
Even a brand new home that we looked at only had one 5,000btu window shaker, built in the wall, and only in the master bedroom.

Right on Ron, sometimes here at night point the fan at the ceiling so I wont get too cold but I sometimes have to leave a fan on because without one it's too d*mn quiet to sleep. Sounds too much like a brownout.

Manzanita, that is just toooo funny. I thought it was just me. On the "cold" nights I point mine at the wall at the foot of the bed. I also like the noise and I feel the slight air circulation in the room.
Of course my wife is rolled up in TWO blankets.

Lately I have been rolled up in two blankets (Ok, sheets actually), while the wife is smothered under 4!

Shadow, I can relate. I guess all wives here are the same, and they think we are the crazy ones. Not only does Mae use 2 blankets, but she covers her head completely with the blankets also (says her ears get cold).
As I said in another thread, I tried to tell Mae that in Houston in the winter it gets as cold at night as the inside of our refrigerator. She couldn't begin to relate.
