I'm leaving Arizona the middle of next week and saying goodbye to my son and daughter. I'll then be driving to upstate New York, and visiting for about a week, and then saying goodbye to another of my sons. After that, I'm driving to northern Maine and touching base and saying my farewells to my youngest son and my remaining siblings and friends, and then......FINALLY, packing my car away in storage and putting it behind my garage (still mine until my brother buys the place). Then the biggest fear of all, I'll be renting a car and driving to JFK airport and making a 2nd attempt at taking off to Manila. I really hate flying, but, that's the only realistic way to get there. It has been a very long year. I was supposed to have already been over there this time last August, and settled down in a place by now. I've told all my kids that they need to get their passports and come visit because I doubt I'll be able to fly for a few years after this. So, who has the SM waiting, and what bar will I normally find any of you folks at? So, wish me luck all, and I truly look forward to meeting all of you that are there and really just looking forward to learning about the culture and how to fit in and carve out a nice life with some good friends that I meet along the way.

Wow Tom, that is an adventure! Northern Maine too....beautiful this time of year. Been up to Presque Isle many years ago for great trout fishing (we did some potatoe picking too LOL....not bad money for a couple days of hard but enjoyable work). Don't worry too much about driving to JFK....I drove out of and into it a few years ago - it was a lot less traumatic than I expected. Plenty of signage to get you in the right direction and lanes....Once you get on the plane you can have a couple drinks (if not before getting on) and sleep...

Probably coming to the Philippines at the best time....rain (in theory) will be tapering off and weather getting a little cooler. Plus Christmas festivities coming up. You'll love it! Best wishes for a smooth and pleasant trip! And a new exciting phase in your life!

Tom, so you finally will be here mid November (or earlier ?).
Well, the SMB will be kept cold.
Send me a PM via this forum and I'll give you my celphone number so we can meet somewhere.
I hope for you the alcohol in the plane is free (as usual) so you can bring yourself asleep on a pleasant way :D
Have a good trip to your new destination.

Jim, I look forward to meeting you in January, and I'm sure that Jelly and I will put aside a SM for you. Jelly, I'm looking at the beginning of November, but will arrive in Manila at the end of this month and stay there for a few days to get acclimated to the time and weather differences. Then I'm going to look for bus and ferry transport to Dumaguete. I have a friend here that I met recently that has a bunch of relatives in the Dumaguete area that I'm hoping to meet with too. One of the relatives owns a resort there and he has other relatives that owns some plantations in both Cebu Island and around Dumaguete. I'll pm you when I get to Manila and after I get a cellphone of some sort. Again, I look forward to meeting you guys soon.

    Thanks Garbonzo,

I used to work and live in Presque Isle. I was raised in Houlton. Small world for sure. The high end of the fall colors are just passing there now, but upstate NY will still have some nice colors on the trees. The driving to JFK is not a big deal, it is actually stepping onto the plane (I'm a p*ssy). Now the potato picking is a memorable experience. It is mostly done by harvester nowadays, but when I was growing up, potato picking was a yearly fall job for everyone that could work. The money I made paid for my school clothes, Christmas presents for my parents and siblings and the rest went to my parents for other necessities. Potato farming and woods industry is still pretty much the main industries up in that part of the country. Anyway, whe will be your next trip to Bacolod?
