Good for you jellyfish, you are a very positive person:smile: You know education doesn't have to do with filipinos saying "hey joe" to foriegners. Yes, I think it's a kind of greetings they extend to foriegners especially the kids love to say it aloud. They get excited when the foriegners smile back at them and so on.

"Smile and the world will smile back at you".

To be fair looking once again at Rhoody's link about the US citizens in the streets of good old USA. I have seen in the past such and similar questions asked in the streets of europe and the answers where also very comical and somewhat sad.

General education is sometimes quickly forgotten by adults and geography and history are the norm in the area of grey cell deletion not being important to many peoples daily life.

But here in the Philippines not a lot is taught about anything outside of Asia its just not on the school criculum and we can not blame them for what they simply do not know.

Most of the people here that insult us or are rude are the less educated, we notice them more than the friendly care for your fellow man guys. Its always the bad things that stick out like sore thumbs.

    To enlighten you all:

the cry "Hey Joe" was used in an advert on TV about 9 or 10 years ago and its stuck ever since, some times it is used in comedy by the adult members of this society and the kids do think its a way of greeting foriegner.

I have been called daddy and grandad and seen kids dare each other to shout something stupid. To me its just an annoying thing to bare, sometime shows a lack of education but believe me I have heard worst and racial remarks. But one gets that where ever you are in the world.

I have had people talk about me in Jeepneys in Cebu, not understanding that I understood until I instructed the driver and paid the fare. It was fun to see the embarrisment.

This reminds me of the effect of a nokia advertizement that showed British always used the word "Bloody" thankfully the comedy on this issue only last for a year or so as when I used to say I was british someone always joked about it such as saying "Its Bloody Cold in your place". lol

Hey Joe is here to stay, perhaps us ex-pats should greet each other with Hey Joe too. lol

There are some interesting books called, "hey joe' by an author that lives in AC. His name is Ted Lerner. His other book is pretty good too. It is called "The traveler and the Gate Checkers" He actually had a column called 'hey joe' Anyway, I enjoyed the books and I highly suggest reading them. The books got great reviews too.

There is at least one exception, a school that is trying to make a difference in this area. The school is located in Amlan and its website is at .

    .

Base does not explain what its teaching other than whats above, explain more please?

Its really the whole education system that should be involved in teaching a more expanded view of Geography and not just the private schools for the rich off spring only. Not knowing about Base at the present does it charge high fees?

Does this global really mean that the children will learn Geography on a wider spectrum or it will use global teaching methods? It would be nice to see what the actual criculum is, it leave me unsure as they have a fine website and its missing the main factors that would be the schools main attractions. No or small fee's and exactly what is going to be taught there.
