I see a new bar,"Bogarts", and restaurant,"Chef Arbels", on the blvd. Any reports on these ??? thanks p.s. any restaurants doing a special Christmas dinner??..SM
Saw a pepperoni () pizza from the new Israeli-Italian place next to Happy Fred's last night, looked like cr@p. The poor soul who paid P215/small one, send it back after consuming just one piece. Reasonable reports on their lasagna and cannelloni though. Get the impression Chez Andre's and Shakey's won't go out of business soon then.:D
Bogarts is mostly a bar with breakfast, soups and sandwiches. I have had a few sandwiches there...they are large and reasonably priced with multiple add-on options but no cheese options :( As far as the beer goes...I like my beer to be nearly frozen, so I usually need ice there with mine. Chef Arbeli's is a somewhat lower scale place. Prices are pretty low (for the lasagna's, etc) but they are mostly meatless choices and of course little, if any, cheese. (Haven't tried the Pizza.) I guess if you are on a really tight budget it would suffice but you can get better quality elsewhere around town. The staff told me that Chef Arbeli's was open 24 hours and has free wifi and KTV...it's nice to have more late-night options.
I read Bogarts is somehow connected with Casablanca, so there is hope... Chef Arbeli's sounds like another poor try to make money with low quality and all anemeties you REALLY need, low quality and KTV. How is the beer temperature ? Somehow it sounds to me like the place there before, just other owners... another lost chance ?
Maybe my post came off sounding negative...I think both are good places, I just wanted to share both the strengths and weaknesses that I noticed at both places. I think Arbeli's is targeting a lower income market...so, if you are expecting it to be Casablanca, you will be sorely disappointed. The beer temperature was not so good at Arbeli's...and I was told the owner is a foreigner from Manila and is not affiliated with Momma Mia's the previous tenant.
I saw the pizza at arbels and I must say it looked like an abortion that lived! I also saw the ravioli. It looked acceptable and the shiskabab although not lamb actually looked impressive enough that I will try it during the weekend. I will not opt for the pizza though
Heard some people/persons, that gave honest opinions about Arbel's food, have been textally assaulted by the "Mossad" Dumaguete branch. Better be careful how we all comment about any new restaurant, in case they come to "collect"!
just the htread im looking for.im really into good pizzas especially the large diameter ones.is there any place where i can find these types of pizza?that abortion comment above really made my stomach sick.
