I have been using Apple Computers all my computer life. I started out in 1983 or 4 on an Apple IIe. I now own a Power Mac G4 running two (2) 800 MHz CPUs. that I bought 12/19/2001.
I was wondering just how many of you owned or are running a Mac.? My mac has been trouble free for the 6 years that I have had it. I am toying with the idea of buying a new Mac Pro. Running two 3.0 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors. with two 16x SuperDrives. What do you think of this UP GRADE.

Yes, Macs are the only way to go...alway been a big fan. Started using them myself about 1990 and prior to that used the Atari ST range which had a similar GUI...the Ataris were fantastic for their day...miles ahead of anyone else but never caught on beyond Europe. Have a Mac dual pro G5 on my desk at work (along with a seldom used hi-end P4 on my other desk), and we have a couple Macs here on our home network (eMac and flower-pot iMac), plus a couple Windows machines that my wife and son need for their work. There are a very few exploits for OSX but I've never seen one...last time I saw a Mac virus was about 1998. Last time I saw a Windows one...last week. Since I can walk and chew gum at the same time I do most of the IT support at work...the Macs are gems...hardly ever break or have software meltdowns..

One of my workmate's husband has recently purchased a Mac Pro in about the same configuration as you're looking at. He's put both OSX and Windows XP on it...God knows why he'd corrupt it...but he did...and tells me he's really thrilled with the speed of Mac apps, like a rocket, but feels the Windows is just tolerable speed-wise.

I hear there is a Mac shop in Cebu city but I've never gone there. I think a Mac would be ideal in the Philippines though (particularly a laptop, better power supply filtering...still useable when Norelco dies...and can travel around the islands with it)....you could put it on a network anywhere and not worry about all the little nasties their unprotected PC's have...and they do have them...

What are you doing, designing an atomic bomb?

Why do you need 2 processors for reading email and surfing the web?

Thats just a waste of money, but its yours, do whatever makes you happy.

    LOL...don't need a computer for that......just ask a Pakistani...

Seriously, I do a fair bit of video conversion...record classes and then digitize them on DVD's for students who may have missed out...the more horsepower the quicker the result. What used to take 10-12 hours is now down to about 3...

Yes...Macs have always been better for multimedia apps. Still have the edge there. But I would strongly advise anyone considering a new computer...get a Mac...the security advantage alone may save you a lot of money. The Russian mafia may hate you....but you can do your banking and funds transfers in secure bliss. We never, ever, do any banking on our PC's...even with all the auto-updates on our Windows machines...we do it on the Macs..
