⌛ British Pensions

1. Not exactly Jim, but you're on the right track. The changing pension age for females is gradually being phased in now, so that in time men and women will qualify for the pension at the same age. Only fair really, as women have a longer life span in general than men.

2. The pension age has not yet been raised to 66 for men. This will only apply if you were born after 06 December 1953, therefore the first date on which that will be effective is for those who start their retirement on 05 December 2018. If you were born before 06 December 1953 then you will still get your pension at 65.

My own opinion is that this too is fair. Those that have the raised pension age of 66 are the same ones that did not leave school until 16. Most of us approaching pension age now had to leave school at 15. Therefore if their working lives started a year later, it's logical that their pension should also start a year later.

 

What a shame, I'm 56 so I will have to work till I'm 66, I'm already knackered

Why not take a 26 week sickie in your last working year. Go back for one week and then take another 25 week sickie. That will take you up to retirement, you won't be so knackered, and you will have got all your tax back in sick pay !!!
