When you travel from one island to another you need a ferry, and they will always ask for the registrationpapers of the vehicle. I don't think that the rentalcompagnie gives the original registrationpapers to the renter but a xerox or kind of contract which might not be accepted by the ferry-compagnie.
The ferry from San Carlos (Negros) to Toledo (Cebu) seems to be verry strict.

Try Uymataio at Tampi (before Amlan), the landingcraft ferry, they never ask for documents, just cash for the ticket.:D

Photocopies are enough for the ferries and for the police(not the driving licence). I did a few trips with my own bike and my friends with a rented one. 2 years ago from Cebu to Leyte, Samar, Luzon, Marinduque, Mindoro, Panay and back to Cebu. This Year via Bohol, Camiguin, Mindanao, Leyte, Cebu back to Negros. These were a lot of ferries and never a problem with the Copies

Thanks. This is good to know and I will definitely get copies of title/regs from the rental agency. Most of the time the rental agreement is good enough, but sounds like PI may be a bit more challenging. All part of the adventure.

You must ask them in their Filipino jargon ask for copies of the O.R and C.R. That is Official Reciept/Certificate of Registration. If you ask for a copy of the title more than likely you will confuse the hell out of them

Ya, luckily the wife will be along for the ride to translate. Also will negotiate with me out of sight whenever possible. Should significantly lower our costs for just about everything.
