    Post numero uno...
I spent an afternoon in Dumaguete back in 1997 and I'm contemplating maybe moving there but curious about the general costs. Houses,Condos;availability and per month ranges for nice houses. I am paying 15,000 Thai Baht/21,165 Pesos a month here in Thailand for a very nice 104 square meter condo about thirty meters from the ocean. Looking to hopefully scale back the rent amount if possible. Also have a seven year old daughter who is fluent in English and Thai and can speak a little Waray. Hope to find an affordable bi-lingual school also. Any clues on these matters would be appreciated immensely, Jack:cool:

Jack I am sure you are still lurking and maybe reading some of the past posts on all of the subjects you are inquiring about. So it took you only one afternoon in Dumaguete and you think you want to return.

A lot of comments have been made on the education system in Dumaguete and reading some of your other posts where you mention the gramatical errors of the Filipino text books are right on. My wife still says he when she should be saying she and vice versa. There are plenty of grammer schools where a predominate english speaker might be able to get by but it is the quality that I would be worried about. Of course something most of us posters do not take into account is that education is also about what you do with it so it is possible even with the worst teachers and text books if you are able you can figure out what is correct with time on your own. Try to hit all of the posts on education in Dumaguete I am sure you will start to get a better picture.

I also read in an earlier post of yours that you spent time at Ben Hoa. My Cousin was killed in an expedition at Dak To in 69. I always want to learn more about the place but as you know that period of our history is so hard to get around. Too much emotion for everyone involved. Even my college roomate who was born in Vietnam and smuggled out at a young age never met his father because his dad was taken and shot by the NVA before he was born. These are the realities of war.

I hope you are getting the information you need and welcome to the forum.
