I discovered my maid had a birthday....I thought I would have a small celebration.... we got a little cake......some coke and a couple of other things....no big deal.... we all gathered around and sang Happy Birthday..... the maid broke down and collapsed in tears.....in 46 years she had NEVER had a birthday party....

Same thing happened in my wife's family..... and the weird thing is ..... a few months later the family forgave her..... went on as if nothing had ever happened.... their capacity to forgive is mind boggling.....
I know of one family where the uncle molested a child.... they just watch the "strange" uncle closer.....he is still "part" of their family....
Another family in Bagio got tired of taking care of their mentally handicapped husband so they all, including his wife, chipped in and sent him to relatives in
Siaton......they knew the relatives could not turn him away no matter how weird he acted.... "he is family"

This is a different culture with different values..... some things I admire greatly and some things just blow my mind

There was a story of an expat in the Dgte area whose Filipino brother in law lived with him and his wife. The brother in law was a bit nuts, always causing trouble, and as the story goes the Filipino side of the family got together to decide whether or not to just kill him.

He survived the vote as I recall.

That was really nice of you to do that. It is a fact that some people never get to experience something as simple as a birthday celebration no matter how small or simple it is.

    Birthdays!

 Following on with Kenny's Thread and my post of a Rogue Sister-in-Law, Only on saturday, she threw a Party for her 60th Birthday, Not only did she not tell the family BUT never even invited her own Mother. Having been invited to no less than 14 over the last year at the family home. It was only when I saw the Photos posted on Face Book, that I told Azon. I guess it will be never ending but I still think, no matter how good we think our In-Laws are, we will always have a rogue element. :(
