I don't really like my current cardiologist and she does not intend to practice at the new ACE Hospital where I am a member. So I'm looking for a new doc. So far the best recommendations I have are for: Dr. Brian Joseph Calinawagon and Dr. Karen Mae A. Sayson ... with Dr. Calinawagon leading by a bit because his Internet presence implies good communication skills. Does anyone out there have any experience, good or bad, with either? TIA
I will never go back to dr. Sayson. it has nothing to do with her skils as a cardiologist, but more to do with her indifferent uncaring attitude. i have heard good things about Dr. Susan Denura, but have no personal experiewnce with her yet. folowing this thread...
Having had extensive dealings with Denura I can say she is a very good cardiologist although Calinawagon wins in personality and spending the time needed to explain things and answer questions
We used Dr. Denura, she was very good. I have nobody else to compare her to, as she was recommended to us and was the only one we went to.
We often give opinions on the most preferred eating places so how about doing the same for healthcare? Without being libellous, if members wish to state anyone they liked being treated by and perhaps those they prefer not to use again (here on this forum or by pm if preferred), I would collate it into a list and publish it here. It could include those working in Dumaguete, Bacolod, Cebu and Manila and cover all medical and dental disciplines. Sometimes people need to make decisions urgently and a list at hand of recommended healthcare professionals would be useful.
My wife, child, self have been using SMC doctors for nearly 9 years and have been satisfied with all. My concern is, like me, they are getting old (more graceful than I, but many appear to be retirement age) and that knowledge and experience will go away soon.
I use Dr. Magbanua in Silliman. A little older, takes his time with you and he goes by appointments first, walk ins if he has an opening.
Dr. Denura is the one I've been to and don't like. Without question she is a good doctor but seems to resent questions about her recommendations and so forth. I was married to a doctor for 30 years and was a paramedic for a few years long, long ago so I have a little background, can speak the language a bit and I tend to research and question everything. So.. balance of opinion seems to be for Dr. Calinawagon. Expert level skills and reported to be a good communicator. Has an on line presence and permits appointments both on line and on phone. I'll be seeing him for the first time in a couple weeks. Thanks for the input. JohnInValencia
My wife's father was recently treated at Silliman for a mild stroke and Dr. Denura was brought in for a cardiac consultation. I felt she was okay as a cardiac doc, but I did not like her personally at all. She walks into the room like a queen and expects everyone to stop what they are doing, get out of her way and be quiet when she enters. When she ordered that a colonoscopy be done, I was in the room and asked very politely and respectfully if she could explain her thinking about why she saw a need for that test ... she brusquely replied to me, "and where did you get your medical degree from sir".
