Hi Everyone: I have been here in Dumaguete now for 4 days. I am planning on retiring here and want to look the place over. I will need to rent either a house or apartment so if any of you know of something I sure would appreciate your help. I also have a brand new Compaq Presario High Def Widescreen Laptop for sale. franko4444@gmail(dot)com.
Welcome Franko. As mentioned to many on this forum, having the same question as you to find a good stay, take your time (at least a few weeks !) and walk or drive around (bycicle) some time in Dumaguete to check the many offers. There are many places with different prices, facilities etc etc.. See other threads and postings on this forum as well.
Touring the area Jellyfish thanks for the reply and good advice. I plan on hiring someone to take me around this coming Monday. I am still hurting from a recent motor cycle accident and cannot get around like I want to. I went to the Why Not Bar and spoke to young lady there. I felt like I was an inconvenience to here as she did not seem interested in helping me and barely went through the motions. My main priority is being able to get good internet service. Oh yes, an no herd of dogs or roasters in my neighbors backyards. That may be asking too much though lol. Anyone with any useful information are free to contact me at 0955361442. Franko
I will PM some info to you today Franko. I know a lady who has a lot of contacts in Dumaguete who could help you, if she can't help you herself in finding something . She actually officially stopped with her business as a broker but will still do efforts to friends (she is still a good one to me). She did help me renting our first house when I came over. The lady at Why Not, was that the waitress or the lady inside near the internet ? Don't expect too much from the waitresses (in general) Did you check their information board ? Also at many other restaurants and bars you can find sometimes offers for buying as well as renting. Take your time for selecting so you will not be surprised later to find yourself near to a dog kennel, piggery or noisy karaoke bar(s) :D
Apartment and House Hunting I looked around a little yesterday but saw nothing I really liked. I don't mean to offend here and I hope none of you will take offense at what I am about to say. Please remember that I am very new here and that my attitudes and views will likely change over time (if I stay). As with most places in the Philippines I find nice places to live but they seem to be located in "war zones." Houses haven't been painted in 50 years and graffiti all over the place. Narrow streets almost impossible to navigate and clutter every where. I am thinking that maybe a gated community may be the place for me. I am willing to pay more for this and to travel a little ways outside of Dumaguete. It is important to me however to have decent internet. Again, my views may change in the future and to be honest I should even post this message as I have not been here very long. I have however, lived in the Philippens for 8 months and recently lived in Colombia South America for 2 years. What drew me here was that there were allot of foreigners (expats), living here. Living among Colombians and not speaking fluent Spanish can be a lonely experience at times. So, my main reason was to locate here with the hopes of having a few good friends to speak to from time to time. And also being able to find affordable accommodation as I only have a small pension. So please forgive my rash comments about this area. I will be traveling outside of the city this Monday to see the surrounding area. Franko
