im sorry if my username offends anyone here. its the name that i use in most of the forums im in (philmusic, talkbass, istorya, etc). i play a lot of funk, a bit of jazz and a lot of heavy alternative music. im really looking for a drummer because drummers are really scarce in this area. the wood that i am looking for will be used for my custom bass project this comming october which will be made by a local luthier. im sourcing out local woods such as Kalantas Mahogany, Kamagong (macassar ebony), Ipil-ipil (merbau), and Narra (new guinea rosewood). it is difficult to find these kinds of wood because it is being regulated by the goverment especially when exporting (i think it's illegal to export these woods nowadays). hope somebody could help me.thanks a lot for the replies. i never thought tha this forum is alive.hehe

there are actually a lot of wood types here that have different names in other places. kalantas is also known as philippine cedar in other countries. they sometimes change the names of the wood for marketing reasons. some luthiers also are very much facinated by the grains of our RAMBUTAN trees. i saw one bass with a rambutan wood in it that costs around $3000!to them its exotic but to us, it is very common and cheap. hows that for making use of natural resources!haha

Are you from Dumaguete? I might know you. The music scene here is pretty small. Hehe.
