I'm a Canadian national on a tourist visa living as a resident in the Philippines but need to travel quite often. Can someone please explain how the throw away ticket works and how far ahead it can be booked for so that it can be used more than once with immigration?

    Thanks....this is D's husband.

onward tickets are sold by most airlines upto 1 year in advanced. example air asia: Clark --> Kota Kinabalu 880 Peso for next year

the immigration does not care about that, it is the airline you fly back to the Philippines which is in charge that you arrive here legally.

Some ask, some don't ask while checking in if you have a ticket leaving the PI again.

    cheers

Hello, this is Dolores. Just an added information, hubby has an ACR card (Alien Certificate of Registration)..does this exempt him from purchasing a throw away ticket aka onward ticket?? Thanks!

no, the ACR-I card (tourist) expires with leaving the country and also might be collected when leaving and after reentry and 59 days he needs a new one.

It's been a little while, but more than once leaving LAX, PAL gave me a "dummy ticket" to show to immigration.
Didn't cost anything, wasn't worth anything, but it got me by immigration with no problems.
