The guest claimed it was a ban. But, even a recommendation is obviously taken serious by the Chinese travellers. We lost 30% of our Chinese bookings so far in two days :-(
How much we loose on future bookings not being made we can just estimate.

Perhaps advertising daily excursions to the Spratley Islands could recoup some of it?

If they discourage trips to Philippines will they then leave Spratley? :-)

I don’t know if this has any direct bearing on the thread, but last year I decided to save a little by booking with China Southern to Los Angeles. First trip, no problems. This past May it was a different story. A month or so before traveling I was informed by the agency that my return flight, mid June, had been cancelled, but they booked me on the same flight a day later. A friend who was flying out of Manila on the same flight as mine a day before I was to fly texted me that his flight had been canceled, and he had rebooked on Cathay Pacific. I called China Southern to enquire about my flight, and was told no problem. When I got to Manila, my flight to LA by way of Guangzhou, was two hours late leaving, and when I finally arrived there, the connecting flight to LA had already left. They put us up in an OK hotel for the night, and I flew out the following evening. Based on this experience, I’ll most likely spend a little more and go back to Cathay Pacific next year.

You may want to look at EVA Airlines. I was taking a walk around the village a few years ago and began to talk to an expat. He mentioned EVA. They are limited to a few US cities, but I have to tell you they are top notch and always cheaper than anyother I've used.
