Could anyone give me information on Mount Talinis.
After being in Dumaguete on many occasions I have always wondered if there was a guided tour up there and maybe further and most of all is it safe.

    Mount Talinis

Hi Dumoto, welcome to Dumaguete Information Board

I have not been up on the mountain yet myself, but I heard from a few friends that hiking up there is possible.

I will check back and see what info I can come up with

Thanks very much for your help, appreciate it.
Real estate seems a strange system in Dumaguete, surely there must be properties for sale at realistic prices but where do you find them.
Unlike other countries you don't see FOR SALE signs out the front of houses, lots etc, so that must be a disadvantage for the seller surely?

    Hi Dumoto,

We went through a real estate agent in Dumaguete to find our little slab of heaven, Lautner Ads and Service, but I just got a text from Pinky the owner that she is closing her office which is a real shame.

I know the bulletin board on Why Not has a lot of properties for sale in Dumaguete posted too.

    realestate

    Greetings:

As the Dane mentioned, it was tough for us to find anything as well.

We contacted several "realators" we found on the net, but nothing really turned up. We must have googled hundreds of different topics, "for sale Dumaguete", house for sale Dumaguete" etc. Everything imaginable popped up. Finally, we found an oceanfront lot north of Zambo, and contacted the agent. She was fabulous to work with, and had us email the lot owner, who also happened to be a builder in Dumaguete.

The whole family flew over in August. We only stayed about four days, but made arrangements for the lot, new house, and everything else. All the permits are finally obtained, so road and house construction can start anytime.

We hope to fly over again in February and just hang out for awhile and check progress, as well as go out at night, eat, travel around, eat, and on and on.

If we do get the chance to come over in February, we look forward to meeting everyone.

    Real Estate Topics

To THE DANE and 2blackbelts many thanks for your information on Real Estate.
Have seen the advertisments in WHY NOT and will have another look in a couple of weeks when I arrive.
We have land in Valencia and Zambo but would like to find a home that's established,I get annoyed with the architects there,my needs are fairly simple but they come back a couple of days later with some other outlandish design and don't want to listen, maybe you have experinced better luck 2BB than me.
On my last trip precious time was wasted over this matter, just a simple two storey duplex would be nice without maids room or powder room etc, hence now having to change tactics

    Regards.

Dumoto, You might wanna see if Pinky's office is still open - it's Lautner Ads and Services, located right around the corner from Bethel Hotel. She was great and very helpful to us.

We went in there one day, talked to her staff about our criterias and what we would like... the next day her staff had a stack of prospects we looked through. Then we set a date and Pinky herself took us out to look at all the places on our "maybe-list"

    real estate

    Hello Dumoto:

Good luck on your realestate search. We have friends that live very near us in the states, but also, all of them have property in Zambo. We are located between Zambo and Dauin. We will move over permanently in about 2 years or so.

We have, in our opinion, a fabulous builder. We emailed house plans, requirements, etc. in detail. His sons are graduating from Siliman with degrees in engineering. He emailed us back a full sight layout in color, with the house, guesthouse, gym, and helpers quarters, all perfectly laid out. We were very impressed. His price was excellent, and he has literally knocked himself out getting the permits from Zambo and Cebu, as we have to make a forest cut from the federal highway to the lot for our road, and then get it blacktopped.

We will have an extra oceanfront lot for sale next to us. It is about 45 meters on the ocean. We were thinking of building a house on it, and then just selling it. However, if someone we know doesn't buy it, we may just leave it undeveloped.

If there is anything we can do to help, just let us know.

We are very interested too in trekking to this Mt. Talinis
sometime .I knew a few of the earlier butch of the Silliman mountaineering club who made it to Talinis, but I lost touch of these people, who perhaps can refer to us a reliable guide. Organized tourism in Dumaguete is still on its infantile stage at the moment, but also I hope at some point they can organize a viable tour or climbing package to talinis, and more details about it including prices etc.It would be nice if informations are accessible online too.

But why not visit the Dgte tourism office they might give you infos for a guided climb.Another is try to inquire at the Forest Camp in Valencia,as it's part of the Dumaguete tourism stake holders.Who knows.

Hey everyone! I've been up to Talinis loads of times already and it's definitely worth it! The best guides are those of Cuernos, the mountaineering club of Silliman. They usually go up atleast twice or thrice a year! Why don't you all inquire and go trekking up Talinis
