The clan went out one night to have a cold drink in Coco Amigos, and a bit later in the night we decided to go to Why Not Disco.

At the door the guard refused us entry because 2 of us were not wearing sandals covering the heels. It was quite confusing what they would allow and not allow but in the end after a talk with the manager they let us slip through for this time. Why a small place like this in a provincial town would impose such rules I really have no idea, but if you wanna go to Why Not Disco in Dumaguete City, then wear shoes or sandals that are closed in the back.

Maybe this would be a great new venture for the crafty vendors outside of Why Not - either 24-7 shoe store or simply RENT shoes to people who just want to go out and have a happy and carefree beer or 2.

I brought a group of 17 year old american students on a study trip to the dumaguete area last april - we tried to go to why not on a wed. night and the shoe nazis wouldnt let a couple of the girls in bacause of their sandles - so we went to happy freds , danced until 1030 and then caught the reggae band at hay hays - it was our only night on the town as we were based across the water in south cebu
I wonder how much buisness they lose due to that stupid rule....

    Slipper code in Why not

    HI,
I got the same problem yesterday with some of my guest.... I was a bit insulting the Disco-manager (sorry to be rude, but she was a complete brainless chick) I showed them that there are 5 "Ladies" (who where very obviously hunting for some pocket money) right at that moment w/ slippers on the dance-floor and some long noses at the bar (guest of El Dorado Beach Resort, same owner as Why not) also in our all favorite Islander-slippers drinking. Ok, they are guest of El Dorado and the undercover prosti-dudes (if they are really women... hehe) good for the money the bar earns.
The security guard gave me the advice that wearing socks in the slipper would be ok. so some of my group took off their socks and gave them to the waiting girls and guys outside... but then they were allowed to go inside.... sorry, but obvious their rules have some strange priorities or the guy who made them is a complete buang idiot, How stupid can you be:rolleyes:

This is really amazing. I mean, how stupid does one look with wearing socks with flip-flops? Totally insane rules!

yea - you have to look like an idiot in socks and birkenstocks to go into a place where the DJ raps over the music thinking he is too cool for words -
I guess thats why they have the stronger the alcohol content the cheaper the drink deal : )

The Dane, if you get a chance, why don't you check out the Park Cafe in Tanjay every Friday. They don't have any dress codes there and it's an open area so you won't smell like cigarette smoke when you get out:smile: Granted, it's not as "hip" as Why Not, but I still think it is very entertaining. No rap music though. Just plain old-fashioned disco and ballroom songs reminiscent of the 70s era.

They have that kinda rule? Are you guys sure cause I always go to Why Not Disco in my flip-flops and I breeze right in. Mmmmm. But I'm not a regular since I'm a regular Hayahay girl which definitely has no dress code or slipper code or whatever code there. Come as you are! Of course if you're picky with music then make sure you pick which nights you'll be heading over.

I was at Hayahay before, it was ok, but if my guest wanna go somewhere else, then there are not so much options in Dumaguete. Sadly enough why not is one of that... I know that there are plenty of "Flip-floper's" in there, but most of them are girls.... and thats good for making money to have many girls in a place. Sadly enough that there are many "hunting-girls"too. but otherwise if there were no ugly paying longnoses in there there would be a need for them too... When I go out with my GF we usually go to Hayahay and then we see who we meet. I am not so into the Expat-comunity in Dumaguete. They seem to be a kind of weired to me (or I am still too young, even I smell old...hehe). Other times we meet in some places with some local divemasters, having a couple of drinks and driving home to Lipayo again... By the way last Saturday Why Not - Lipayo 120 PHP only...

    cheers

    Rudi

Wow I didn't know that they don't let girls with flip-flops in. Last time I was there they only cared about the guys wearing sliippers and "sandos." I think that's a way to avoid the old pot-bellied drunken riff-raff that used to come in there a long time ago and create scenes. First time I heard about the girls' slipper-code though

Well it's Dumaguete, not a big city so your choices are really limited. Why not is the place the stays open the latest. There are other places too like Payag Sa Likod which has a Drink All You Can on some nights. Mondays i think. I only go to Why Not when there's nowhere else to go. Basically Hayahay's the place for me. But the place is usually flooded by the locals and usually it's the artists, the nature trippers, musicians, writers, peace corps, etc.
