Nice analysis you've got. In fact, having read their Annual Report, that's what exactly Robinson's is doing in its other malls. Would expect the same strategy too in DGT.

I remember in that interview Mr. John mentioned how his children were named. Except for the last two (?), the three elder children were named after him and his wife. Robina was after him (his second name).

Does Convergys plan to put up one in DGT?

Accenture would be a good locator. They're big. But I haven't heard of plans yet from them. I read about Client Logic being interested. But when I asked a friend who works at their Ortigas office, she told me they have a preference for Cebu. That was a year back. Don't know of any updates. But, I think the agreement between the city and Teletech for a lock up of 3(?) years may be discouraging potential locators. That may be too long. Why make potential locators wait? While Dumaguete is exclusive with Teletech, other companies are setting up call centers in Iloilo and other places.

If the Dumaguete Business Park or portions thereof gets PEZA accreditation, then it would encourage more locators. But apart from these, I think Dumaguete and Negros Oriental really has to sell itself more. I read in a blog about DTI's efforts to bring companies to DGT. That's commendable. But our present crop of politicians should be at the forefront of promoting investments. A long-term orientation in development. Sadly, our top leaders are still the same ones, just changing places through convenient political alliances. This is my impression. Correct me if I'm wrong. I've been out of DGT for awhile. But drops by about twice a year and always keeps in touch.

Re Robinsons Mall - 18,500 sq m is the area occupied by the building, not the entire floors. Yet even though, the mall is still tiny. An average sized SM mall just like SM cebu has an area of 60,000 sq m and their medium sized malls like SM Cagayan is 35,000. Three floors only with the top for the admin? - That is quite small for a city who has a 130,000 + population and is the center of trade in the province. But nevertheless and at least, this will make the city move on forward. There's space for expansion though!

Well for us here we would like those big companies to come here soon. I've been hearing since last year that Convergys plans to put up a site in Sibulan, but until this time hasn't materialized. Yes, I think Dumaguete should promote itself more to the big companies so they will come here.

Hey, the corporate headquarters for Convergys are located right here in Cincinnati. Perhaps I can put in a good word for Dumaguete

If only it were that easy. I assume there are various avenues that local officials can take toward promoting the city with regards to outside investors and corporations. Are they actively pursuing any of these? From your quote, echir, it sounds like they aren't doing enough.

I know! Dumaguete is definitely moving forward. I'm just hoping it won't lose it's charm but i'm excited for a new place to bum around and shop. And no one can say Dumaguete is backwards, i hate it when people tell me that.

I've heard that the spaces in Robinsons are already fully reserved. So I guess those who have plans of putting up a shop in the mall may have to scout other areas in the city.

    That would be most welcome.

I am of the opinion that the city officials are not doing enough in marketing the city and in putting in place the necessary infrastructure (like the roads which are narrow). Although, lately cementing the road appears to be a priority.

For me, the number one asset of the city is its well-educated workforce.
