PNB bank is good service but the rest are veerrry slowww....take an overnight bag!

 

By the way, I was quite amazed to see gun-wielding guards outside of the banks. The largest display of security I've seen at a bank in the U.S. is one guard standing inside who didn't appear half as imposing as the ones I saw in the Philippines. Perhaps we should step it up a bit here as well.

We went into a bank once during my visit to Dumaguete, and I was carrying a white plastic bag of items purchased at Lee SP. I was a tad anxious, wondering if I was unknowingly doing something wrong or somehow arousing suspicion. As it turns out, they didn't even look in the bag, but casually motioned me on.

yes...by guns.

 

How do they bypass two or three guards with assault rifles, then? That is what I was wondering. With all of that security, it would either take an insanely bold or stupid person to take such a risk.

 

I used to pick up my neice from school and on Fridays they held up the Traffic by Dumaguete Rural Bank to let the amoured truck back out onto the street...tense business lots of guns pointing.. so I guess the idea is to hold up the truck on a Friday when its supposedly loaded with cash..anyway I never used to move too much in the queue in case they were trigger happy!

while my 13 yr old neice stuffed herself with peanuts...left a mountain of shells on the road. I have read of hold ups but luckily never witnessed one!

Going back in the 80's on an earlier trip I witnessed a guy getting gunned down in the main street...his crime? uugh ...I think he ran out of a shop as he had been shoplifting. Bloody eye opener that was! oopps sorry to curse but I am recalling it now in my brain.

yes you said stupid or bold risk...well people are desparate when they get to that stage.

 

It is sad to read about some of these crimes in Dumaguete. There was actually a prison break when I was there, though my friend didn't tell me about it. She just made sure my hotel room door was locked. Sometimes, what you don't know can't hurt you, I guess.

Always pays to be vigilant in a foreign country...and not do anything reallly stupid

 

Perhaps we just have different experience.

I used to bank with the PNB a long time ago but change to diff one.
When in the Philippines I only visit the PNB bank when changing travellers cheques, apparently it’s only the PNB that deals with travellers cheques in other currencies around Dgte. I am not sure of what you said because every time I am in the PNB I have to cue up ages shoulder to shoulder with crowds of people,that’s honest to goodness experience .One time I was there for almost half a day ,it’s unbearable to cue up that long,I was appalled of PNB’s systemtic slow pace service .I was close to ringing for a pack lunch and a portable chair (perhaps with a sleeping bag added ) to bring to the PNB, lol. While other banks like the Equitable is pretty good or the BPI I find more efficient anyhow. I send money through the BPI and I can’t moan of the service.
