It looks like the deal is only for travel in March. I initially thought the deal was to purchase tickets by Mar 2 for later travel...So, it doesn't help as we're planning for summer travel.

Anyway, thanks for posting this and if you come across any other deals, please let us know. It's really appreciated!

I'm one of those who would prefer to travel into Cebu over Manila.

When I visited Dumaguete a few years ago I used a site called Best Travel Store. They always carry Asia specials, though there are usually travel restrictions (i.e. you must travel between certain dates, etc.). The price I found was not a special, but still $892 round-trip from LAX to Cebu via Hong Kong (on Cathay Pacific). I felt very comfortable using Cathay Pacific and will likely use them again.

I did visit Cathay's website directly a few months ago and found fares for the same itinerary around $900.

I agree, if I could avoid MNL, I would. But I flew into Cebu once and took the supercat. Manila is just a more convenient destination for me.

I ended up flying into Manila due to some flight delays and itinerary changes. Was supposed to enter the country through Cebu, but it didn't work out that way. Anyway, Manila just seemed so stifling. It took forever to take a shuttle bus less than a mile to the domestic terminal. When I finally got to Cebu everything seemed so much more laid back and pleasant. Even stayed there for a few nights, and then took the SuperCat to Dumaguete.

Obviously, the SuperCat doesn't carry that route any longer, but I kind of liked the change in conveyances. Maybe next time I'll opt for the land trip along the eastern coast of Cebu.

I haven't done this, but I think if you use PAL their domestic flights are in the same terminal. Recently Air Philippines moved to the PAL terminal too. They were bought by PAL and somewhat recently and moved to that terminal.

On a related note.....when will Terminal 3 open? :D If it ever opens I wonder if it will alleviate the shuttle issue you mentioned.

BTW, I used to use PAL. I like their flight schedule out of SFO and their direct flights. Usually about $100 more. However, they started adding a surcharge based on the length of the trip. It was based on tiers and they added $100 for each tier. I think 21 days was one of the tiers. Not sure what the logic is (if any) behind that decision.

I prefer Cathay as well. Used EVA last time for the first time. They were ok, but not Cathay.

Never used PAL. Was supposed to go Cathay all the way from LA to Hong Kong, and then into Cebu, but because of some delays and such I ended up taking Cebu Pacific from HK to Manila, then to Cebu. Really not a bad little plane. Kind of outdated, though...at least the one we were on. A much different atmosphere than any of the U.S. carriers I've ever been on...with the games and all.

The shuttle from NAIA to domestic terminal was an adventure, especially for a guy who had just set foot in the Philippines for the first time. Actually, the entire NAIA experience was quite an adventure, except for the customs officials...they were robotic, and let me through without uttering a single word. My only real welcome into the country was in the form of a sign that hung above the immigration area: "Mabuhay!"

I wouldn't mind using Manila as a transit point if I could just stay in that glistening part of NAIA that I know I've seen in photos. The part I saw was NOT like this. All in all, though, it added to my tales as a first-time traveler in Southeast Asia

These are not my photos, but this looks like a beautiful, forgotten world of NAIA compared to the parts I saw:
