    It does. Also hear "Hey Joe" a lot too...mostly from kids.

    Yep, but take it in stride, they're just having a little fun. On my last trip I was in the company of an Aussie who received the same greeting. He was a little annoyed by the assumption that because he was white he was also American but I assured him it was all in good fun. No worries mate!
    What's really humorous is the facial expressions when the kids hear you speak the local language. :D

    It's the accent that makes it funny??/?? But feel so proud and elated hearing our language spoken by foreigners- just love it and put smile on my face.

    short for americano... when you hear "hey joe!!", as i do everyday when i am there, it's left over from GI JOE during ww2... i love the attention my 6'3" frame gets from the kids, and i feel like a fish in a classroom bowl when i am there. i love it. i will be back in may of 07...anyone know how i can post some of my photos on this site? i take hundreds of shots when i am in the islands there...i would like to share some with all of you.
