Would anyone care to venture an estimate of the monthly income required to live a reasonably comfortable, but simple lifestyle, in Dumaguete or Valencia. The figure will not include rental and should be for two people.

Trust me , you can rent a small but nice house UNDER 10 K and so all together would be 50K and have a SAPAP BUHAY. I even know pretty houses for 5K two bedroom ect...

thanks for you responses i really appreciate it, i was a bit curious I haven't actually been to Dumaguete but there is something about it which intrigues me. I am an Australian and i was thinking of retiring in the Philippines. I am gonner marry a filipina as soon as i can and it seems to me that although it would be a big change from here it may not be such a bad way to go. My fiance lives in Ozamiz and i have the idea that it is a bit of a hell hole. So living there is not realliy an option for me. I would really like to have a business in Dumaguete but i guess most are really pretty well catered for

Where is your fiancee in Ozamis from? My mom is from there and lots of relatives in Ozamis- Medina Ocampos clan. The owner of Medina School of Nursing and Midwifery is my mom's second degree cousin ( Tio Cocoy). Your fiancee might know them. I am not from Dgte itself, but just fell in love with the place. By the way, welcome on board blue. Glad to hear someone's considering to retire in this beautiful city.

yeah Chrissar. she lives on Banadero Highway. Her name is Maureen Agapay. Yes all the stories I have read about Dumaguete has kinda inspired and fed my interest in the place. Maureen is more a big city girl and like so many people she likes Cebu. I do too but its just a bit to big for me. There is a generation or two between our ages I guess that has something to do with it. Its all a big dream at this stage but who knows Blue

    BLUE,
Before we bought our land in Dgte., the initial places we consider to retire were either Cebu and Dapitan City. But, when we saw our place, we'd decided straight away to go for it. It has a breathtaking view, and it's not too far to the city- so social life is not really a problem. Just hope you and Maureen will find a place in this CITY OF GENTLE PEOPLE.
