Hi, I joined the forum today in order to become more familiar with life in the Philippines. At this point I still live in Europe, but have visited the Philippines several times

    House construction

Hi, who has ideas or suggestions to build an environmentally friendly house, that is a house that uses very little energy to stay cool.

Thoses houses build out of only Bamboo are pretty cool to see and to live in as they convect no heat unlike concrete and hollow blocks..
I myslef would love to live in one I have seen in Dauin.. just beautifull
I have deleted @#$%^the picture of that specific house , but this BALAY is also build out of wooden panel with only some concrete that is.....

That is actually true earlmj for wood or bamboo houses .But the problem is especially with the use of bamboo,it rots down quickly. And they only look good during first few years. After range of 10 years they need replacing. The high humidity in the Philippines doesn't help, everything carbon based deteriorates. Although, the use of wood preservatives (dunno the exact name of it) might be of help for wood or bamboo materials to last a little longer.

I like those houses with cogon grass roofs ,looking like having thatched roofing used in some cottages here in england and in mainland europe. But then the problem again in Philippines as mentioned is the humidity, plus the variety of creepy crawlies that might love to live and breed in the roof.

I don't like entirely concrete walls...just thinking about mixed with stone materials for walls.
