My daughter has worked in the hospitals there while attending Silliman and has said nothing about them being a bad place

Philippine hospitals used disposable needles, and you can see even docs tearing off those needles from individual packaging and those vaccine vials whilst preparing the injection.I was vaccinated with hep C at Silliman long time ago and updates here in england.I'm afraid you'll need few jabs of Hep B, in time span of few months. I'm working with children (5-19 yrs old) with severe learning disabilities and challenging behaviour and is a 'must' requirement to get vaccinated with Hep B .Even of teachers working in this field, incase of some odd unpredictable outburst confrontations from children ,like if one get bitten or scratched for instance,or unware of having open cut whilst dealing with children with broken skin . Hep B is transmissible through body fluids, like the HIV ,hence can also be transmitted in circumstances through unprotected sexual encounters with an infected partner .

So far I can remember it needed three hep B jabs .You need to be on date for the next follow up injections .Then they will require some blood sample for test to check if you get the right amount of hepatitis B antibodies.I failed once with it ,because didn't come on scheduled date for the next jab,but carried on to complete the whole as required , only crossing my fingers. A month later they get my blood sample for testing, sadly I failed to develop the said antibodies .Hence I have to start from square one and have another set of Hep B jabs again , pain in the bum.Only an expression...will have the vaccine jab not in the spotty bum but on lovely muscly arms, don't worry lol :D

Right, lessons learned NEVER forget to see your nurse or doc on scheduled date for the hep B jabs.

If would like to hv this Hep B jab in dumaguete yabs, then try to query at Silliman U hospital or Holy Child.I suppose this hep B immunization should be a must or requirement to all medical practitioners (nurses, doctors, midwives med students ,nursing students) if this is so Hep B vaccine should be available in Dumaguete.

My husband had his second shot of Hepatitis-B at the Silliman University Medical Center. It costed him 948.75 Php (total costs).

You can also get the shot in any public and private health clinic/center in the city. You do not have to worry about syringes. They do not recycle them.

had it done at silliman and it was very good service.
pickled newt i'm sure you cannot get vaccinated against hep C?
This is not my first one but just a booster. Kuya
    I would recommend both.
Hep b is very serious and cvaught from blood etc and hep A from water and food

    Updates and advise please.

    Greetings,
In May I'll be coming to Dumaguete for at least five months.
I've been checking into immunizations here in Shanghai.
There have been some quality problems with some vaaccines in China so I was wondering if I should wait until I get there.
Hepatis A and B, Malaria, Typhoid and Japanese Encephilitis are on the list along with rabies.
Are there some good clinics in Dumaguete where I can get the shots I need?
Thanks for whatever infomation you can share.
    Best,
    Tom

PP, you must have slept a while :D
Yabs post is from Oct. 2007 and dear Yabs is since quite some time gone from our forum.
But maybe he has returned to his 'playground' under another name and have I not noticed his typical 'McDonalds humor"

    Dang, Jelly you're right, duh...zzzzzzzzzzzz:o

Tom for Gods sakes don't do this to an old man. Start a new thread why don't you. hehehe.

Anyway, I'm awake now. So Tom I don't know about where you can get the vaccination you need but I'm sure Siliman can take care of you. Just an aside. It usually takes about 3-4 weeks for the body to mount an immune response after vaccinations so you have to factor that in when you make your decision. If you are not planning on doing a lot of hiking and early evening activities where mosquitos are most active, or going to highly rural endemic areas for at least that many weeks after you arrive then you can wait to get the vaccine until you come. Hep A as mentioned before in this thread is food and water borne. Eat only freshly cooked food for a few months after you arrive. A good practice to observe in the Philipppines anyway. Hep B is contacted through body fluid transfer so no unprotected sex with a stranger, etc.. I hope that help.
