    My first visit to Dumaguete was in Oct. 1987. I was there to marry Maria Sergio and it was my first trip back to that part of the world sense Vietnam in 1966. And believe me the site of carabao, rice paddies and coconut trees had me very nervous to say the least. It wasn't long before I learned that Dumaguete really was the "City of Gentle People". I have watched from afar the many changed it has gone through. And I can say with confidence that they have all been good for Dumaguete and it's Gentle People. I am proud to be a part of that family.

    yabs,
    If thing get worse; than it would NOT be "progress"! It would be "worsegress"!
    I think you should keep this eye appointment;

    Please be advised that your Optirectomy operation is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. The purpose of this operation is to sever the cord that connects your eyes to your rectum and, hopefully, get rid of your shi*ty outlook on life. It has been noted that you have been in less than perfect humor lately.

    Ok my first trip there was 1987, so i can have a say here, and no surprise is that it has changed for the better....in some ways...but as yabs says the traffic / polution overcrowding etc etc is for the worse. Of course the question is how do you stop that?? not easy! for me the overcrowding is the worse thing, so many squatters have overtaken the place, and I blame the city officials who should be monitoring building work and make shift housing just banged up anywhere, even interior ways have been built right across, what happens if there is a fire like I saw on Tv last week a manila fire in one of the poor areas and no engine can get to it!! crazy!

    BUT it has changed in some ways for the better, the problem now is educating the people in : being tidy throwing rubbish away properly, so many people in the evenings burn there rubbish even old tyres are chucked on the fire, everyone is choking! the parks are a bit tatty now, men still urinating ANYWHERE I watched one guy do it over his own Pedi!!! mad!

    but yes the City planners should be more vigilant on housing, as at the moment its a free for all!

    If you saw my mum in laws place in 1987 and saw it now...you would not recognise it! if you got a pedi you cannot get it down the lane, I get my suzuki bike thru JUST!! and its only a 110cc! If I take me Honda there I gotta park it up on the road and walk down.
    Poor mum in law has to walk up to get a backride, she is getting older now, dear old soul! she only laughes at me when I swear.
