....and how do you deal with it?

Obviously, it's tropical but as a newcomer, how did you adjust to it?

    What do you do now?

    What precautions do you take?

If you've lived in the Dumaguete region for many years, how many typhoons have you had to deal with?

Weather in Dumaguete is actually nice. We moved there from Davao in 1994 and I have to say, not having earthquakes (very strong ones) was a nice change:smile: As for typhoons, it's usually Samar and Leyte that gets hit by typhoons for the most part of the year. If it does come to Dumaguete, it's not that bad, mainly an inconvenience:smile:

One of the things that is attracting me to the Negros Oriental/Cebu/Bohol area is that they are somewhat protected on the east.
I didn't ask about earthquakes. Thanks for including that.
I have my own ideas about using passive cooling techniques for the home I would like to build.

It's HOT baby. I've seen foreigners collapsed on Cebu streets getting emergency treatment before. If you're overweight or out of shape, take it easy.

We went for a long scooter ride yesterday, maybe 70km in all, and my forearms are kinda red. Use sunblock or long sleeves.

You kinda get used to the heat as time goes on. - What choice is there? Some foreigners leave their home aircon off a lot to acclimate themselves to the temps.

    We always had ours on.

    Weather is great

The weather in Dumaguete is warm to hot. It all depends what you are used to and personal preference. I looked at the page you had a link to on cooling of the house. Never thought of it. If you have good ventilation you don't really need aircon. Have a small one in the living and master bedroom just in case. But a house can actually be pretty cool depending how you build it.

Remember that you live by the sea, which has a cooling effect. Some nights during May I actually get a little bit cool, and need a thin blanket. The weather isn't an issue here. It's perfect. I love it here. I snorkel basically everyday. Temp of water perfect.

My parents house 50 meters from the beach and still too hot inside. When visiting there we always like to hang out in the all wood /Bamboo rest house right by the beach, even prefer to eat meals and sleep there.True it all depends with the materials being used in building the house. The night cools down quickly when near the beach. To mention upper Valencia ,nights there are more cooler too, comfy temperature than dgte .
