been reading that a law to make it illegal to hjave moire than 2 children to control the phils spirally pop growth has been revoked by pro life groups. How naive. What about the quality of those lives that are affected by this population growth. Apart from Koreans this is the biggest problem plaguing the coun try right now. lets hope their is an appeal. This is definatly whats needed.
Interesting news. Thanks for the awareness. Though, I think that it's a bit dangerous when a government dictates family sizes. It may cause more problems than it solves. Look at China. First, in the 60's they encouraged families to have 5 children , the mothers were considered patriotic. Now, because of their large population, they have laws for only one child. And that's causing other social problems. It does sound like population growth is a problem that needs to be addressed, but maybe by a different means.
Having a 2 child policy in a country that frowns on birth control and doesnt want to allow abortions is unrealistic - most people - especially poor ones - don't just say no to sex. This is just my opinion and anyone who dis-agrees has the right to their own but dont preach to me - I am comfortable with my religious beliefs - I have moral objections to abortions but also have moral objections to unwanted children and ruined lives and a ruined future due to overpopulation. The catholic stance on birth control is unfortunate as it forces tougher decisions down the line.
the catholic stance is very unfortunate full stop. By not allowing condoms is just crazy. I would hazard a guess that the HIV rate in this country is not nearly as low as the government projects
Birth control I agree with u - but i think the Church also need to take a stand - together with the government - for the use of birth control (tablets etc). When i visited Manila early this year - i saw the children - they are all suffering as their daily lives was mainly to survive to the next meal. I hate to see the children suffer. Myra
It's good that the government take the initiative to control the population growth in the Philippines, a sign of being responsible government that considers the amount of services that could provide to its citizen. Whatever you do their is always somebody to oppose it as everyone is entitled to his/her opinion but usually- majority rules.
Your solution is naive. What will the penalty be for violation of the law? 1. A monetary fine? Many of these families are quite poor. If you fine them, you will be make it even more difficult for them to provide the necessities of of life for their children. 2. Put one or both parents in jail?. In many families, both parents have to work just to provide for the basics of life. If even one parent goes to jail, you will place them in even greater financial difficulty. Once one or both parents are in jail, who will provide for the children? The government?! The government doesn't even have the money to provide for basic infrastructure in many areas. And they will have even less money after they start putting parents in jail for violation of this inane law, because the jailed parents will no longer be able to work and pay taxes. Less tax revenue will hurt the government. Thankfully, Filipino pro-lifers were able to stop this poorly thought out law, which would only make things considerably worse for all parties involved.
Not as unfortunate as your stance. The HIV rate in the Philippines is noticeably lower than the U.S. rate, according to virtually all reputable sources. Thinking that condoms will prevent HIV is naive. Several years back, a team of high-level Japanese scientists conducted a study of condoms. They tested thousands of condoms produced by a large number of manufacturers. Every single condom, bar none, was found to have microscopic holes measuring anywhere from two to four microns in diameter. The infectious HIV microbes are only about one-half to one micron in diameter. It doesn't take a mathmetician to understand that ANY of the HIV microbes can penetrate ALL condoms. Condoms provide a false sense of security against HIV. There are an increasing number of incidences where people who used a condom are reporting that they are HIV positive.
If I'm not mistaken, you and the few so called Japanese experts are saying that condoms have no impact in preventing HIV infection, correct? HIV is a serious public health issue & many lives are at stake here---so please do not spread false information in this forum or anywhere.... I'm sure that most moderately educated individual do not have the assumption that using condoms will provide 100% protection for HIV infection or pregnancies---broken or defected condoms are not unheard of. But the fact is, excluding complete abstinence, condoms are still considered by most health experts to be the single most effective way in preventing contraction of HIV. Cheers.
