I read about the Iranian student getting ambushed, but I also heard rumor of another foreigner getting plugged recently.

Has anyone else heard anything about this?

    yes, they were shot....Sh*T!!

I just read your post because i am suffering from insomnia. I searched and Yes, unfortunattly people were shot... I just cant believe it!

sorry for the poem like post(i copied and pasted, and it looks like this afterward...)

    Two persons died separately this
    week after unidentified gunmen
    waylaid them.
    The Regional Trial
    Court Branch 30 presided
    by Judge Rafael
    Crescencio Tan Jr. sentenced
    Reynaldo “Andy”
    Somoza (left ) and Darwin
    Catubay (right) both residents
    of Barangay Looc, to
    life imprisonment for selling
    illegal drugs, they were
also told to pay a fine of
    Php 500,000 each. The
    court also imposed another
jail term of 12 years and
one day to Somoza for illegal
    possession of shabu
plus a fine of Php 400,000.
    But the same drugs
    court also freed Medelyn
Liu and Arvin Cubalan of Barangay Calindagan due to the dismal performance of
the prosecution in convincing the court of the guilt of the two accused “beyond
    reasonable doubt.”
    Iranian national
    Bahman Zarei, 21, a
    sophomore civil engineering
    student of Silliman
    University, sustained two
    gunshot wounds fired
    from a .45 caliber, 10pm,
    Sunday. On the other
    hand, Noel Palencia, 28,
    and a construction worker
was hit in the head, past
    5pm, Thursday.
    Dumaguete PNP chief
    Supt. Dionardo Carlos refuses
    to disclose the motive
    and circumstances behind
    the murder of the Iranian
    even as he claims
    probers have already gotten
    strong leads about the
    killing, including possible
    identities of the suspects.
    The foreign student
    was talking to his girlfriend
    when the attack occurred
    in Rovira Road,
    Bantayan Dumaguete
    City. His friend, Amir
    Tahmasbi, 24 said that the
    two male suspects were
    riding a Honda Wave motorcycle
    and fled after the
    shootings.
    Palencia, a resident of
    Barangay Looc but was
    temporarily staying at
    Villa Fortunata, Batinguel
also of this city, was with
    Elmer Viliran, his coworker
    at the new building
    being constructed at
    the Silliman Medical Center
    compound. They were
    on their way home when
    suddenly a motorcycle
    with two men overtook
    the their vehicle, the
    backrider opened fire several
    times hitting Palencia.
    He was rushed to the
    nearby Silliman Medical
    Center and was confined
    in the Intensive Care Unit,
    but he succumbed to his
    head injuries at 2am, Saturday.

Hello there.... I am from Dumaguete City but right now am in Manila. You shouldn't be shocked of such incidents because it is not a new thing anymore in Dumaguete City. Since last year there were already multiple incidents of killing. To share with you, my 21 yr-old niece was murdered last October 23 in her way home from school. And until now we didn't even have a clue of who the suspect maybe. I won't tell you more of the story because it was like a nightmare to my family.

But despite this I still say Dumaguete is much safer than other places... although we just have to be careful.... i'll be there in Dumaguete tomorrow until Monday to visit my mom and my family.

Hello , I am sorry to here about your neice . I will be moving to Dumaguete and want to lead a simple and peaceful life . I can understand economics and robbing foreigners ( not that I condone or like it ) but violence to locals for no good reason is just sad . I know violence is a real possibility . I will pray for your neice and family . Regards Kevin

Hello! I am sorry also to hear about your niece. In my time nothing like this degree of criminality happened. But i hope that the city government and the local police are already working on it.

Jss, you're so resourseful. I read almost your contribution on this forum. Vey informative. Hat's Off! Since last year and few months ago there are vigilantes that hit people with criminal records. Get away transportation is a motorcycle. I have not heard on them recently.I wonder if the same people that committed crimes to innocent people.
