    Dont know how that will take in this town... However, that instant coffee you find everywhere in phils is just not that great....

    Totally agree :eek: . Drinking Starbuck's watching the sunrise?! Not too shabby! And you would think that since the PI is ideal for growing and making good coffee, that it would be readily available but I haven't come across it.

    Coffee is grown in Batangas mostly, then exported. Personally, I like Indonesian coffee. Visited some relatives in Baguio who grew and roasted their own beans. That was nice!
    You can find locally grown coffee in some of the grocery stores but I question the freshness. When it's fresh it's a lighter, bright coffee with citrus tones. Tasty.
    There are lots of Starbucks in the Philippines and they're not slowing down. I wouldn't be surprised to have one show up in Duma.

    There is, or at least was, coffee grown on Negros. I've been to a small plantation on the side of Canlaon several years ago. An old spanish mestizo, Jesus (last name was Elcharri or something like that), was growing it above La Carlota. My wife used to do some accounting work for them. Wasn't a huge farm...I'd guess 30 - 40 acres...and was selling it in Bacolod and Silay. Exporting some to Spain too. He had a small sugar plantation down below. That coffee plantation was magic..real pretty place...nice stream running thru the middle of it. Incidentally the coffee was also the best I ever tasted..anywhere. I heard he died a couple years back and his wife is now living with the kids in the US. No idea what the status of the coffee farming is now. Should check next time we're there. But, yes it can be done on Negros, and done well.

    Back to the original question....here's my wild sure-fire business ideas. Problem is...I have absolutely no intention doing either of them. Retirement is for having fun:smile: ...although both of these would be enjoyable.

    A two-seater in the right location...Apo island for instance..could generate some good revenue...maybe...

    2nd is Bugnay Wine. Finally got to try some last year in Bacolod. Very nice drink and way too hard to find. I told my wife this would really do well grown on Camiguin and cleverly marketed overseas. Australians will drink anything...colourful label and exotic name and it'll go out the door by the case. No reason it couldn't be done in Valencia area either.

    You can stop laughing now...

    Hi All;
    Another business idea that come to my mind in the Philippines is to expand my small electrical parts supply and services business for commercial and residential I will get my electrical parts overseas and will do the installation and maintenance also to my customers. I have twenty years North American experience on the industry.Any chance that this idea might work ?

    on Starbucks

    For Dumaguete, the likes of Starbucks would not work right now. Coffee shops are attractive, but Starbucks pricing would not be attractive to the local population. Bo's Coffee (which originated in Cebu) or Coffee Dream might. These two have lower prices than SB. Then there is the matter of finding a franchisee for the business. Nowadays, SB, Bo's, Figaro, etc. operate thru franchisees. Franchise fee for Figaro's is P5M.

    When Robinsons Place opens next year, there will be one major coffee shop - al fresco.
