Just as a note on the economy screwing back in the 80's Marcos was putting so much Gold through the UK gold exchange that it was lowering the price... got raised in parliment, Thatcher brushed it aside. Yes, Westinghouse built the "Bataan Nuclear Power Plant", it was a scam from the start.

A complete and total theft of this countries precious financial resources, they were never even allowed to consider fueling it with fissionable material, everything was substandard.

 

Phils could legitimately default on the debt but would be on hiding-to-nowhere on the foreign aid side. Funny isn't it... if Phils was part of Africa, the G8 would have cancelled the debt.
