Hello, Of the time I lived here in phil, i never had desire to hav a maid/houseboy. Probably because i always lived in an apartment/condo. But in duma, i am planning hopefully to live in a house. That means lot of housework. So i am thinking of maid/houseboy. Anybody with experience with maid/houseboy you would like to share? I would like to know any potential pitfalls/problems. And things i would need to do to prevent potential problems. Let's not get into the potential problems arising from sexual relations with maids, as i have absolutely no intention of doing so. AM interested in things like security, pay, etc. etc. Thanks!
Well, just having a house doesn't mean somebody should need to have to pay somebody just to keep it clean. I know some people have to watch the budget, and I've known a whole lot of people to actually save money by learning (or remembering) how to push a broom and wash a dish themselves. This is also a way to avoid any temptations there might be with having a 20 year old sweetheart living in the house also. My 2 centavos, I hope this advice helps you out jss.
It's a luxury and comfort to have house helpers , I missed having one ,can't afford here .Maids can make life easier ,they wash your dishes,your clothes,cleaning up your house, kitchen etc .e.A 'house boy' can do like your gardener ,handyman,even can act like a bodyguard or driver too,or any domestics that will suck up your time .And you are left with all your time to yourself and your other interests which you haven’t had much chance doing so during your working life .But better be careful of who you hire,coz they can either be sweet angels or nasty devils in your household if you pick the wrong ones. Maids/boys can be a good source of gossips about you and possibilities of everyone in town will know you more, than you know of them. They can also be spies and possible agents of doom and death .Referring to the Dgte murders few years ago of local couple and the suspects were their missing two male household helpers .The recent murder in Bacolod of a rich chinese businesman, where the primary murder suspects were again the missing household helpers . When you are out for longer periods maybe weeks or months ,watch out a naughty maid can do what she likes ,can bring in her lover for nice company when you’re out and enjoy the fascilities in your household . Sometimes even your maid's lover so desperate might climb up your fence ,and you'll mistake him for a burglar. This happened when I was little, we had two maids one in her late 40’s and the other in her 20's.All were single ,but they have sort of bf's.Even the older helper got herself a toyboy in the village.Some nights we noticed the dogs were barking mad and agitated with some commotions in the back garden. Time comes my father jumped out with his gun and in the dark had a snoop down the garden .No sooner he noticed some figures and thought they were thieves ,immediately he fired 2 shots in the air just to scare away and the two figures scampered off in the darkness, he beamed on his torch and saw the half dressed maid running to hide and in split second who looked like her lover jumped over the fence . My parents those days used to store months long consumption of like rice ,sugar etc and my mother knew exactly when to get another supply .But noticed the food store get used up so quickly than it used to be .Soon we heard of rumours from trusted local that our older maid handed out food supplies for her toyboy and regularly .Again we started snooping and caught like 2 kilos of rice in a plastic bag and a handful of coffee and bag of sugar hidden down the bottom of the box of rags in the garage.Also I saw her between my eyes what she did to my little brother , putting his little willy in her mouth ,so bad he peed on her mouth ,which looked so strange disgusting ,so I reported it to mother . I wasn't aware of any sexual connotation from it that time,but in the end my mother lost her patience and looked for another replacement. For less attractive wives who had put on more weighty 'blubber' and have a husband with the serious philandering history ,use your common sense dear ,never hire a maid to live in your household more attractive ,flirty and younger than you ,because you never know what would happen next if you’re out. Heard of stories husbands caught sleeping with the maids?Maids get pregnant by son or husband and sacked? My great grandfather did so with several maids ,and had children of them lol ,he's the real naughty one . Better on the prevention side ,rather than act when it happens. These are just few things that could possibly go wrong when having the bad helper .For people who seriously look for household help ,try to find one with good references even just a word of mouth from people you know and trust. Nice good maids are like gems.Treat them nicely with respect and they will give you back a worthwhile service.
Nitemare! Now that's what i call a NITEMARE SCENARIO. I am a obssessive compulsive type, and i want my dishes to be washed very clean and vegetables super rinsed prior to coooking. I have a feeling a maid would definitely not care if there is leftover soap on the dishes or vegis have worms on it. I have no problem cleaning my own house (inside) and doing my own cooking, so perhaps i should look for PART TIME houseboy who comes over few times a week to do the lawnwork and clean the exterior of the house, etc. I just dont like the fact that anyone would be INSIDE the house when I am not, and would have KEYS as well. I was hoping for the best, but based on even a few replies here, i would just have to forget that...
Well we have an expression dont tie the cat to the bacon :D If you are that obsessive do it urself its a good exercise. Housemaid is a danger Poolboy can be too for the rest its all so personal A houseboy that functions as a bodyguard ??? Dont know many who will throw themselves in harmsway for 6000 / month ?
haha that's funny. yeah, i think danger/stress outweighs any benefits... I think pickled meant just having another body around prevents/minimizes potential threats, which i agree. i certainly dont think any houseboy will throw themselves in front of an oncoming bullet!
haha i was thinking more like 50year old maids. but then again, i suppose SOME will find even THAT tempting! :D
If I was looking to hire helpers....I would only hire someone from Duma with extensive family and friends locally & with good references---preferably from another expat. I'd never hire someone from other areas/province that's without any known history to the locals or anyone for that matter as these are ones that can clean you up or worse & then disappear overnight. Always hire someone locally with good reference.
