I just wanna share my expierience with 4 local travel agents.
It is the time of the year where I got to go on my yearly visa-run, so on

    July 9

i booked a nice package to KL for 5 nights. the travel-agent got my money and told the tickets are here in 1 (one) week. After 10 days I called him and he said 1 (one) more week.
    On Wednesday

    AUG 1

he called me that they can't get the tickets and vouchers. So I told them to give me back my money, I will be ther next day before lunch.

    Yesterday

    AUG 2
after a good wednesday-evening out I went to pick up the money at 11:00 am. This worked great right away. in the next hour I went to 3 different Agents with a prepared printout what I want. That paper included the following information:
my name, contact number for further question and what I want to do:
flight to an asian major city (Bangkock KL HK etc), 3-5 nights accomodation, flight back. The only issue is, I have to be back on Aug 24. I tried to make it as easy for the m as possible. I told them I will be back at their office around 3pm and will check what they can offer, and book and pay right away.

    Aug 2 2:45pm
the first Agent told me he has nothing to offer and was busy with baby-sitting.

    Aug 2 3:00pm
the second one had one offer to Palau (a real asian major city:confused: ) for 950 $US. I said no thank you (maybe I should not wear a diver t-shirt). then he offered a flight to Bangkok for $US420:eek: ....But at least he had something to offer...

    Aug 2 3:30pm
the third had different offers for reasonable prices exactly what I want. I was really happy and chose the KL pckage for 5 nights incl. flights for US$380.
Flying out on AUG 14th back on AUG 19th all from Cebu.... perfect !!!! The lady made the reservation, gave me a receipt and a printout with the confirmation of that package everything seemed to be perfect. I was ready to go so I asked when I can get the tickets/hotelvoucher. She looked at me and answered the ticket proceeding will take around 2 - 3 weeks .......
    HELLO ??????

date at present Aug 2 ..... plus 2-3 weeks ticket processing period (15 Days) = Aug 17
Flying out on Aug 14 without ticket and voucher.....

welcome to Dumaguete.... University city ....

    cheers

    Rhoody

    Sounds like fun

We went around a few months ago trying to find an agent to book a ticket on Asian Spirit, none of the travel agents in town could do it.

    One of them said:
"They changed their number so we can not call them"

Can you not book your holiday online? Choose the hotel you would like to stay, choose airlines to fly with and choose the destination....Is this not realistic in Dumaguete/Philippines? If this can be done online, you can then just print out the e-tickets and other documents....Just be ready with your debit or credit card.

sure you can make that online, it's just more expensive.
Last year I went to Thailand 4 nights including Flights, bed and breakfast for US$ 250. The agent delivered the tickets to my hotel in Manila in 24 hrs.

try to get this price online with looking seperately for flights and accomodation

even I get a good price, my post is about the real high quality of our University - town travel agents...
meanwhile I booked a flight online, the bad thing about that is, that I probably have to attend the birthday party of Dane aka the beer-monster ... i hope I don't miss the flight then... hehe

    cheers

We've used PAL Swingaround (for traveling to BKK) and Palakbayan holidays for domestic trips a few times. Too easy and the prices are good, sometimes outstanding. Book thru local PAL offices in the Philippines, and it's been painless for us (bit of a wait sometimes when the offices are busy, but the process went like clockwork). Some of them have to be booked in advance...or so it says...they are a lot more flexible than the print version...if they have seats and rooms. Check out the PAL website and download the pdf pricesheets. We've been impressed with the deals we got...
